Have you just had notice/ an email about a change in the booking policy to the system where you get a "black mark" if you cancel a class?

Just trying to find out if it's a national thing or just local? Because the new system seems bonkers!

It's only if you repeatedly cancel a class at short notice.

Cuppa12345 · 28/06/2019 21:14

Yes! I got that too. Seems overly harsh. I used to book and make a note to cancel if I needed to but can't now.

AnthonyCrowley · 28/06/2019 21:21

@helpmedecide123. That's not how I read the new policy. If you book a class 9 days in advance and ten mins later realise you're away and cancel it then....so nine days before! Unless somebody else books the space you've vacated you will get a mark? Only if the class was full at some point between you booking it and the class.

So you're ok if it's fully booked by the class as someone will have your slot. You're ok if it never becomes fully booked. But if it's fully booked at any point and then isn't fully booked by the class you get a mark, even with nine days notice.

Seems crazy. If the class isn't fully booked by the class then nobody wanted the space and me briefly having a slot didn't stop anyone booking on.

The previous two hour rule seemed fine to me.

Tennis members have had this since the app booking kicked in

If we get three blackmarks can't book court for set amount of time. Even if its not the fault of the person booking court, so for doubles I'm relying on noone dropping out 24 hrs before or I get blackmark.

Balls to that, people get suck ffs, I speak to my racquets manager and get the blackmarks taken off

AnthonyCrowley · 28/06/2019 21:34

I think tennis is remaining as it is, if you cancel more than 24 hours you're ok. I have rackets membership so I'm used to that. Classes have had similar for ages with a 2 hour cut off but now that cut off has been extended to potentially still getting a black mark for 9 days notice of cancellation.

At my club is been going on for over a year. 3 black marks and you get a block on being able to book.

AnthonyCrowley · 28/06/2019 21:37

@monkeytrap, yes I've had it it at my club for over a year, but previously you only got a mark if you cancelled with less than 2 hours notice.

Are you saying at your club it's always been possible to get a mark even if you cancel 9 days before?

Ours has definitely changed. Used to be the black marks and no classes, which you'd get for not turning up or booking too close to the class, can't remember exactly how long just now. Now if you cancel at any time and they can't fill the place then you get a black mark. So technically you could get a black mark 9 days before but most of the classes I do are always full so hoping if I cancel with days' notice it'll be likely the place gets filled.

AnthonyCrowley · 29/06/2019 06:43

Well most of the classes I do don't get full. So I'm going to stop booking and just turn up because there's normally space. There's one class I do which is normally full so will have to book, but if I can't go I nkw daren't cancel.

I only live two mins from the gym so will just pop in, swipe my card and leave. Which means that anyone who potentially could have got the space now won't.

It penalises people like dd who are chronically ill, she will often wake in the morning and know she won't be well enough for a class that evening so cancels then.

I don't bother cancelling if I can't make it to a class. None of the instructors at my David lloyd check the list of attendees. We turn up , do the class and then leave.

AnthonyCrowley · 29/06/2019 07:14

Our instructors don't check the attendees either, so as long as you've swiped through the gate at some point that day you're ok.
