City breaks within 2 hour drive of Chester?

Can you recommend a city with plenty to do for 2 adults and DD3, DS6?
Not manchester or liverpool.
Any other cities not too that could entertain us for 2/3 days?

Birmingham? Has Cadbury’s world, a decent museum, lovely canals to wander along and is precisely a 2 hour drive. I went last summer with dd 8 and we had a fab weekend.

York? Too much like Chester maybe? But lots to do!

Durham is lovely but it’s over 2hrs away

Are you driving or train?

Stratford, Nottingham, Warwick, Oxford?

Derby, not too far, lots to do and see, some nice hotels, plenty of parks if the children want a bit of a run around, plenty of restaurants.
