What temperature is too hot for kids to go out and play in?

Err if you think it's too hot you stop them playing outside,it's your call there aren't really health and safety guidelines for playing.

Hmmmbop · 27/06/2019 17:13

About 35 degrees.

Other wise, plenty of fluids, suncream, hat and preferably in the shade.

Fibbke · 27/06/2019 17:15

About 30 something in the middle of the day. Even then they could play in a pool or in the shade.

It wouldn't occur to me to stop my dc playing out in the hot weather. We've been cooped up in the house for what feels like months because of the rain so I'm not keeping them in for the sun as well! As long as they have access to enough shade and water then I wouldn't set an upper limit. Not in the UK anyway.

Expressedways · 27/06/2019 17:24

If it’s around 30 I’d limit time in the direct sun, insist on a hat and suncream, and offer plenty of cool drinks.
Above 35 I’d probably stay indoors but we have air conditioning. If you don’t then outside in the shade is probably more pleasant.

Frenchfancy · 27/06/2019 17:26

It was 42 here this afternoon. I'm keeping dc inside until it cools a bit. Below 35 is OK if in the shade, below 30 for sun.

Serve drinks in the house and not the garden, that way they get a couple of mins to cool down before going out again.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 27/06/2019 17:29

None really as long as they have protection and plenty of water. Ideally inside between 12 and 4, but can't always be avoided.

There are children all over the world in much hotter temperatures (even in Europe) and they happily play outside in the summer all day long.

"There are children all over the world in much hotter temperatures (even in Europe) and they happily play outside in the summer all day long." No they don't. In hot countries they stay inside in the heat of the day. They have siestas and keep the shutters closed.

Screamanger · 27/06/2019 17:45

Provide an area of shade and access to drinks. Then just let them play,

Camomila · 27/06/2019 17:55

When I used to go to summer youth camp in Italy then keep us in the (cool) hall if it got higher than 33/34c.

Then we'd all play out after dinner when it was cooler (low 20s)

I grew up in Greece where it is customary to sleep in the afternoon, it is even a public order offense to make excessive noise between 14:30 and 17:00. The sun is very hot during these times and you’d risk sunstroke playing outside.
