Having realised that listening to the radio on my phone whilst running is a very quick way to lost a LOT of data, I think I should download some podcasts instead. I need something that will be great escapism and distract me from the pain of trying to run.

Want to stay away from anything political or about fashion/beauty/lifestyle. I love listening to Chris Evans on Virgin for his longer interviews so interesting interviews could be good. Or real life stuff. Maybe true crime? I tried one of those this morning and the woman had such a ridiculous monotone that I gave up.

So, wise podcast-listening people of MN, any suggestions?

Thank you!

Crime: serial, who killed elsie frost. S town isnt crime but made by the same people as serial and is v compelling.
Interviews: griefcast with cariad lloyd, reasons to be cheerful, ways to change the world, this american life (same people as stown and serial). You might like the guilty feminist as they have different guests on and its interesting and funny.

If you need a laugh then my dad wrote a porno, and joan and jerricha. Although mdwap made me laugh so hard on one occassion i needed my inhaler so save that one for when youre not running.

I second Stuff You Should Know, I actually love Josh and Chuck and there is an ace SYSK Army Facebook group Smile

Another one for No Such Thing As A Fish too.

Bob Mortimer's Athletico Mince is bloody hilarious, even if you hardly know anything about football (it's not all about football)

And lovely Adam Buxton's podcast is always funny and fascinating. I really enjoyed him talking to Nina Stibbe recently, and David Sedaris.

Podcasts are a huge part of my life, they help me get through all my household chores and to fall asleep at night.

Cheerybigbottom · 26/06/2019 22:54

Stuff you should know by Chuck & Josh from Short Stuff. They have an especially interesting two parter on the Tylenol murders in the USA but just as thought provoking stuff as what were human zoos and what is perfect pitch?

@cecilandsnail I was going to recommend Someone Knows Something too. I found the first season really fascinating. And kind of spooky. I think about it now and again. You're the only person I have come across who has ever listened apart from me.

Drunk women solving crime - funny & crime-y.
Griefcast with Cariad Llyod - interesting interviews not as heavy as you would think
No such thing as a fish - funny & full of interesting facts

I like How to Fail with Elizabeth Day (although she does also write for the Mail on Sunday so probably can't be mentioned on MN)

visitorthedog · 27/06/2019 06:38

The Lady Vanishes - for people that liked Serial, STown etc. Also West Cork.

Laura221 · 27/06/2019 06:41

Red handed is my absolute favourite at the moment. Also drunk women solving crime.
