If you are a grandparent...(purely theoretical)

Would you sacrifice your child's health/happiness for the sake of your grandchild's health/happiness?

This is a purely theoretical situation/discussion.

Just after I gave birth, that terrible accident happened in Ireland where the family car slid into the water and all the family was drowned, except the baby who was saved.
This has obviously marked me, as it's something I've thought about off and on since. That and the I, Robot scenario, where the robot calculated that the adult had the best chance of survival and saved Will Smith rather the child who was also in the car.

My mother is dead now, but I'm pretty sure that if there was a choice between saving me or saving my child, she would absolutely save my child, which is totally the correct choice imo. Similarly, I would step over my OH's body to get to my child if necessary, and he would do the same.

I'm interested in what other grandparents think though. If you had to choose, would you choose your child or your grandchild?
