Son snorting

Over the last few weeks my son has started snorting, almost like he's sniffing up a really big bogey he can't quite get, and it's constant.

I know when I was his age (7) I developed a few ticks, I still have most of them today and my mum used to shame me over them, she still does now so I'm super conscious about making him feel bad and making a big deal out of it, but at the same time the noise is really going through me.

Ive brought it up with him by asking if he needs to blow his nose because he's snorting an awful lot and he just looks at me like I have two heads and swears he's not making any noise.

Any suggestions on what to do or should I just leave him to it?

My son does this lots in summer as his hay fever is bad. I ask him to blow his nose and there's nothing there. I think it's liquid (sorry!) caused by the allergic reaction running down his throat (again, sorry!). He also tries to cough/clear his throat in his sleep at night as it's itchy.
Hay fever meds help a bit.
Could it be hay fever?

My ds occasionally did this. He used to intermittently make a 'hmm' noise a bit like a snort. I just ignored it and he grew out of it.

My 7 year old son also does this. It's as though he doesn't even notice he is doing it. I'm hoping it's something he will grow out of.

Hayfever?
Maybe try an antihistamine?
Ask your pharmacist.

One of mine is constantly throat clearing.
The other has a snotty sniff thing going on.

I'm blaming hayfever.
My house sounds like zoo.

Glad it's not just us!

I don't think it's hay fever, I spoke to one of his teachers last week and the other today and neither of them have heard him do it. We went for a meal on Saturday and then back to my dad's and he didn't do it then either.

He used to make himself burp before the snorting came about.

It’s a VERY common tic. If he has others and they stay for more than a year then he might have tic disorder. Pop to the GP and if that’s it explain to school because shaming/commenting will make it worse.
