Hand hold, feel like I'm getting nowhere with my driving lessons. Anyone else?

It's so frustrating.

I had some rubbish instructors in the past so finally got a very good one that I'm happy with... but I'm confused. I seem to be doing the same things every lesson?

Each week the feedback is the same, always positive. But I'm never doing anything new, no talk of doing anything new either. Always just the "Same time next week?"

I'm a confident driver with what I've learnt so far and it all feels very flowly and smooth.

But so far all I'm doing is...

-Moving off

  • Changing gears appropriately
  • Doing a few smallish roundabouts
  • Driving round and round the same areas

Nothing else. Not even a sniff of anything like reversing.

I feel like it's all just draining now and I'm really getting nowhere. Has anyone experienced similar?

I so need a car. For my DC and for me. Life
would just be wonderful. I'm so excited to get a car but I've just not even had the chance to so much as try a test yet.

Try a different instructor, even a few, until you feel happy

Speak to your instructor and let them know you feel you need to be doing more.

Up the number of lessons/ hours. I started out doing an hour a week and felt like I was going nowhere.

I switched instructor and started doing 2 x 2 hour lessons a week and progressed much faster.

Your instructor is a chancer and trying to get more money out of you without actually teaching you properly.

Every lesson should be a mixture of general driving around AND learning a new manoeuvre or skill AND practising something you're finding difficult.
