Just that really. Looking to book a holiday for next May, found a great deal for Turkey in a hotel that looks great for families and perfect for DS who has severe ASD but something is making me doubt myself about booking it.

Share your experiences to stop me having a wobble.

Went in May, had read about huge queues at airport security but was actually no different to any other time we've been. I love Turkey, you get loads more for your money, definitely recommend

I went in May - Lovely hotel with fantastic service. There was a great kids club, food was very good.

The airport security was off putting - going home everyone was searched on three separate occasions and everyone’s hands, pockets, shoes and electricals were swabbed for gunpowder residue. Better safe than sorry, but next time I would probably go somewhere where that level of security was not necessary.

Thank you. I think DS would struggle with that amount of security though :(

I didn’t have that same experience with security at all!

Loved it.

Look at Liberty Lara Beach. It’s much much smaller than most of the hotels on the same beach. We absolutely loved it!

We've just been/go several times a year... lovlely/no issues...

mother87 · 22/06/2019 22:23

And security in Turkey was thorough/efficient - less 'chaotic' than my very large regional UK airport...

We went in May also. You get so much more
For your money in Turkey I find. The weather was lovely. We stayed at Sueno Deluxe Belek, it was very good.
We flew into Antalya airport, landing around 10pm and the passport control queue was fine, took about 10 mins to get through and they just checked the passports and that was it.

On the way home there are 3 security check points to pass through, one as you initially walk in (before you check in), one before you got to the departure lounge (same as you would in England) and then before you go to your gate you get your passport checked and they will randomly pick people for a full check (bag, body search). We didn't get picked for that but it was all pretty organised.
We went with Jet2.com and paid a little bit more for private transfers to/from the hotel to the airport which were excellent and took the hassle of getting on the coach and numerous drop offs away.

We went to Belek too! Stayed at the Gloria Verde which was beautiful.
Our youngest DS(10) has fairly severe ASD and ADHD but we managed to have a great week. Staff were wonderful, he had a few 'accidents' in bed and they brought fresh linens each time, even in the middle of the night.
Airport was fine too, security checks were completed very quickly with a minimum of fuss.
I love Turkey, it's one of my favourite places to visit.
Hope you have a lovely time!

Security at UK airports is tighter these days as well. We flew from Manchester last month, and OH forgot to take his liquids out of his rucksack. Security were very thorough in checking, double checking and triple checking the bag.

Been to Turkey three times, different airports no issues, love turkey.

Thank you, that has made me a bit more confident. Its so hard because to afford it I have to work overtime all year so there is so much riding on it being a good experience.

it does seem you get a lot more for your money in Turkey. We are going to Tenerife this year and paying much more for less.

Just got back last week went to Antalya Lara resort, it was the best holiday we have been on. Stayed in 5 Star hotel all inclusive hotel was hotel spotless cleaned constantly, food was fabulous fresh and wide range of dishes, not one upset tummy, out hotel had kids club, water slides, private beach with pier and live entertainment every night, family room was gorgeous had free mini fridge which was restocked daily and tea and coffee facilities. We are going to book again not next year but the following year we enjoyed it that much.

Snappedandfarted2019 · 23/06/2019 08:46

We stayed in the the Ramada Resort Lara, the level of security was no different to when we went to Rome in May and my DH was selected to be random swabbed for explosives residues so it's not just Turkey who have upped there security.

TravellingSpoon · 23/06/2019 11:39

The Lara resort is where I had found to book, so thank you for that post snapped
