I was helping my DS with the colours of the rainbow and used the Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain as a way of remembering.

He thought it was magic! Grin

Can I ask what’s your best mnemonic aid?

Mine was “My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets” (until Pluto got downgraded!)

@andantecantabile
Yes that's it! Thank you. I keep meaning to look it up then forgetting when I'm actually near my music books.

Ambydex

I'm shocked. We learnt the exact same thing. I thought that it was just a weird thing that our school did.

I can still remember that from 35 years ago.

redredrobins · 21/06/2019 23:44

I carefully lined up the numbers under the colours! Confused

BODMAS - brackets, order, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction.
There's some PORT left in the bottle (and port is red like port lights on a vessel.)
StalaCtites hang from the ceiling, StalaGmites grow from the ground.

Stalagmites stand mightily.
Stalactites cling tightly.

DianaBlythe · 22/06/2019 02:08

We learned stalagtites cling tightly to the ceiling and stalagmites might one day reach up and join them

Or

As the mites come up the tights come down (presumably for scratching)

Also Annie for remembering whether to use affect or effect. Annie is a person and therefore a noun and it’s an E for the noun.

BikeRunSki · 22/06/2019 06:51

Stalactites look like tights on a washing line!

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 22/06/2019 07:43

Stalactites and stalagmites.

At the end of the day, tights come down and little mites have to grow up.

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2019 08:10

I like them when they relate to the word (I find trying to remember what Big Elephants and Small Elephants are doing harder than just remembering how to spell Because).

So I like:

Weird - When Everything Is Really Different

Rhythm - Rhythm Helps Your Two Hips Move

For random ones I favour:

My Very Elderly Mother Just Strangled Uncle Neil's Parrot (Planet order. When Pluto was declassified Mum was forced to turn to homicide and poor old Uncle Neil copped it Grin )

Clock changes - Spring Forward, Fall Back

Necessary - one Collar, two Sleeves - is helpful

To work out which of Practice/Practise you need, put advice/advise in the sentence instead and say it to youself. It won't make actual sense sense, but one will sound totally wrong, so you'll know that you want the matching form of practice/practise in your sentence.

KnittingSister · 22/06/2019 09:03

My very educated mother just served up nine pies - planets

Keep pigs clean on fabulous green snow - kingdom phylum class order...
