St David's Hall, Cardiff: "medical emergency" stops song competition ??

I was listening to what I think is the final of the Cardiff Singer of the World competition, broadcast live on R3 this evening; the first competitor had only been singing for a minute or two when he came to an abrupt halt, and the presenter said technicians had come on stage to take him off. That was nearly an hour ago, it was explained as a medical emergency, apparently a lot of the audience has been evacuated, and they're just broadcasting songs from earlier rounds of the competition. Does anyone have a clue what's going on? If it was one person taken ill, I don't see how it would take this long to get them out and resume.

Can you not imagine someone in the audience having a cardiac arrest? You can't exactly continue around the paramedics giving CPR and trying to get someone into a stable enough state to transport. And having watched as they shocked, intubated and tried to resuscitate someone its really not something you want the audience around for - and that took over an hour from the advanced team arriving to him being stable enough to go.

Of course you're right, I hadn't thought about it properly. Hope whoever is affected is ok.

I was listening yesterday. I felt so sorry for the poor audience member! But also for the singers - it must have been awful for them.

Yes George, did you hear that the first singer, whose performance was interrupted, went on to win?

Ah! I missed the beginning and turned to R3 during the hiatus - so didn’t realise they had already begun.

Nightmare! Hope the audience member is recovering.

I missed all that, have to watch/listen around dh. Hope the sick person is recovering; how awful for them.

I really want a list of who is singing what and I can't find one. Anybody got one? I know some of the pieces but not all.

It’s very sad, someone in the audience died.

Oh no, I am so sorry.
