Can anyone talk to me about UTIs because I’m really not sure that’s what I have...

I’ll try to keep this short because it’s probably just me being a crazy person Grin

About 3 weeks ago now i had a really heavy period which came with a temperature and feeling faint the doctor sent me to the hospital where they gave me transexamic acid and blood tests. I wasn’t anemic and didn’t have an infection so they put it down to a bad period that coincided with a virus.

The next day my temp went up really high and I was having bad pains in my back. Again called the doctor who told me again it was a virus. Then had a week of constant nausea and extremely bad diarrhoea.

The next week my temperature was down but the pain in my back was worse and now my upper belly was very tender (so I can’t lie on it or anything ) to touch and occasionally painful without being touched.

So at the end of that week (so now 2 weeks since the hospital visit) I went back to the gp who dipped my wee and said I had a UTI.

I don’t have and pain when peeing or urgency to pee or anything (as I had when I did have a UTI). But I know that’s not always the case (!) .

I had 3 days of abtiotics which I finished yesterday .

I still have the back and stomach pain and today especially this evening I’m starting to feel under the weather again.

My husband (bless him) bought a urine dipstick thing from the chemist yesterday I
Trying to be helpful Smile which we did and it shows the maximum amount of leukocytes but nothing else. Obviously the flaw of this then became obvious because we have no idea what that means Grin

I feel a bit like I’m being dramatic going back to the gp tomorrow but the antibiotics have done nothing and I’m wondering if any other infection could do all of this because it really doesn’t feel like a UTI!

Any experiences would be appreciated - currently soaking my back in the bath Grin

How did you on with the GP?. I have a similar issue in that dip tests don't show much yet I'm getting all sorts of pains in strange places. I don't often get the classic UTI symptoms either although still have a Uti. It's very frustrating.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

I have another round of antibiotics . She thinks it is a UTI as well as potentially gallstones - so I have a scan booked now .

So a couple of things rather than just one!

Why stood out for em is lack of ‘normal’ UTI symptoms coupled with back pain and temperature and positive dipstick test for UTI. I would be questioning whether it’s a kidney infection, especially as it’s been going on a couple of weeks, and not been resolved by a standard course of antibiotics. Hopefully, now you’ve been seen again and prescribed more antibiotics, you’ll start to feel better soon. Make sure to take regular pain relief and drink plenty to keep the kidneys flushed through and discourage any bacteria hanging around.

Thanks remember - I have co- amoxclav (or something like that!) now for 7 days so hopefully that will help!
