What gets blood stains out of car seats? <not a murderer!>

Please recommend me something that gets blood stains out of car seats. I refuse to google, as google will then forever have me down as a murdery weirdo. Grin

Honestly not a murderer. It was a sudden unexpected bout of “women’s problems” that came on during my drive home. It’s only a 30 min drive! Normal carpet/upholstery cleaners have been a bit useless so far. It’s a grey ish seat so don’t feel confident using bleach.

Have an mot booked next month, and I’d quite like them not to scream when they open up the car.

Soaking in cold water with no detergent is like magic for blood, you can watch it lifting away but I'm not sure how you'd manage that with a car seat.

bobstersmum · 16/06/2019 13:21

I think with any bodily fluids the key is to use only cold water as hot water sort of sets the stain. I believe washing up liquid is very good.

We used bicarbonate of soda paste to clean our car after DS had a projectile nosebleed in it. It did mark the seat slightly paler though. You could try vanish spray?

Methinks the lady doth protest too much - are you SURE it wasn't a murder, OP?

DrSeuss · 16/06/2019 13:42

That oxy washing stuff made into a solution?

frogsareflyinginfromthewest · 16/06/2019 13:47

Dr Beckmans carpet cleaner... the one with a brush on the top. Gets anything out of everythingWink

Bagadverts · 16/06/2019 13:51

1001 stains works well on carpets and upholstery indoors, though I haven’t tried grey/in a car.

MrMeeseekscando · 16/06/2019 13:57

My friend had a leak on my car seats. Baby wipes got it right out

donquixotedelamancha · 16/06/2019 14:36

Honestly not a murderer. Yeah, me neither :-)

I clean up small blood stains with biological (non-bio won't work) washing powder with lukewarm water. For large amounts of blood I buy pepsin and lipase (enzymes) online then rinse with a mix of alcohol and acetone. Bleach destroys DNA evidence.

If you are burying 'rubbish' don't forget to bash out the teeth. Always go at least 4 ft deep- it's worth the extra effort. Never bury with quicklime, it's a rookie error- it actually slows decomposition rather than helping.

bobstersmum · 16/06/2019 14:40

^^ haha!

GingerRogers84 · 16/06/2019 14:42

You can hire a Rug Doctor and an upholstery attachment for car seats etc.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/06/2019 14:43

Well, I hope you disposed of the body OK. Next time use 2 shower curtains.

Anyway - I’m sure it’s too late but flushing with cold water is the best for starters.

There’s also a stain devils that worked well when ds had a jab at school and managed to bleed all down his arm.

LMW1990 · 16/06/2019 14:44

Salt. I'm not sure how effective it is after it's been dry a while but it's always worked for me on textiles. It's sort of breakdown the stains and then I use hand wash

Shockers · 16/06/2019 14:47

I had this problem just the other day- I liberally sprayed Dettox onto the blood and it lifted out. I initially panicked because it wasn’t my vehicle- the Dettox was close to hand. The seats were in a beige velour (campervan).

Shockers · 16/06/2019 14:48

But that was straight away.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 16/06/2019 20:18

Thank you all! I will try all those tips, possibly all at once. What could go wrong Wink

Was a horrible day though! Hadn’t had a period for nearly 2 years. It started at work so I put a pad on and headed home. It just kept coming out Shock It was horrific! Lasted a nearly a week too. Got the worst stains out that day, but there are a few small patches that just won’t shift.

Ah well. If I can’t get them out, I’ll just have to educate whoever does the MOT about uteruses and their wicked ways. That will be fun.

Contessa my cat swears he’ll provide an alibi. Mostly on account of my being too lazy to do anything murdery if I can’t even get off my arse to give him dreamies.

LordProf nothing is worth spoiling my lovely (ikea) shower curtain for! Grin
