Is it normal to bleed the entire first month on the combined pill?

Full story so I don't drip feed but I'll try and be brief.

I am nearly 45. A few months ago I went on the mini-pill because I was getting heavy periods every 23-25 days and the PMT was horrible. I was having rages. I was still nursing my 2 year old at the time.

The mini-pill was okay, but every time I was even 6 hours late I'd get bleeding for a week. The 2-year-old stopped nursing so I went on the combined pill 3 weeks ago. It did stop the rages. I was having spotting when I swapped to the combined pill.

I have been bleeding every day for the last 4 weeks. I am also a bit flat in my mood, really irritable, and have no interest in sex.

I know I should see the GP (or really the nurse) but it will take weeks for an appointment.

Should I:

  1. Start the next pack of combined pills and try and skip the period. GP gave me the okay for this when I was perscribed the pills last month.
  2. Stop it and try and re-set with a full period?
  3. Renounce all polite society and go live in the woods for the next 5 years?
