If a child held your child's head under water

What would you have done?

This is a bit of a self indulgent, navel gazing, contemplative thread to be honest.

When I was young, my family lived abroad in a hot country. A regular activity was being with friends, hanging out by a pool and hot tub. I would have been probably between 5 and 7 years old. A boy about my age, a year or two older was the child of another family who we hung out with. He was a tearaway who his parents found difficult to control. Anyway, while playing in the hot tub, i remember that he held my head underwater. I though I was going to die. I didn't cry when I told my mum.

What would be the normal response to this do you think?

My brother did this to me in the swimming pool. My Mum went absolutely crazy at him, I have never seen her so angry but then she witnessed it. If she hadn't seen it and I told her and didnt seem upset about it she probably would have thought it was just for a split second and not been as angry. I know myself as a parent if my child comes to me with a story of someone pushing them/hitting them etc I react differently to if I see it as you can never be sure exactly what happened unless you see it yourself.

I think I would be so angry I would start screaming at the child and their parents to be honest.

There has been one occasion where a child of about 4 followed mine (about 2) around all playgroup, taking his toys and deliberately treading on his feet, and at the end I had enough of trying to get him to share and just ripped the toy out of his hands and gave it back to my child. That example makes me think I wouldn't be able to contain myself as I was furious then and nothing dangerous was happening.
