Can any Americans help with a recipe for a proper southern “pork roast”

We have an exchange student with us from the US and it’s her favourite meal.

There’s so many recipes on google I don’t know where to start. Is there a kind of basic pork roast I could start from and build up!

Sides? It doesn’t sound a normal pork roast we would cook! She said her mum cooks it in loads of spices and “stuff”

Any help appreciated!

Perhaps you could email her mum and ask for the recipe?

I would have asked SIL as she lives over there, but they are away travelling through some god-forsaken part of the wild west at the moment and no wifi.

No idea, sounds nice though!

Could you contact her mum to ask do you think? I'd think her mum might like to hear from you to know her DD is in safe hands and it might be a nice bit of cultural exchange. Of course my DC would probably forbid me from doing that on the grounds of being deeply mortifying...

Oh I’ve been speaking to her mum loads, shes only 12!

I would’ve liked it to be a surprise but I might call her mum tomorrow if I can’t come up with anything
