Anyone live in Oxford and can tell me about the Bodleian Library?

I’ve lived just outside Oxford for about 10 years now and have never really visited anything on offer, with the exception of the museums occasionally. (I tend to feel intimidated by the students and have always assumed that large swathes of Oxford isn’t available to me as I’m not a student there).

However, I have just seen that there is a White Rose exhibition on at the Bodleian, which is free. So, how do I get in?

And where else should I be checking to see exhibitions and talks I, as a non-student, could go to?

Any advice gratefully accepted.

I'm going to Oxford in the Autumn. I've never been before, can I beg for general info too please?

Glitter - are you just visiting or studying? There is so much on, I just never really know where to look or what is student only.

My son, 10, is really into music - all kinds. So I need to start checking out some cheap places if anyone has any ideas.

I went to a free exhibition there last summer and you just went in through the entrance just next to Blackwell Bookshop.

@ginmcginface . Going for a weekend. DH is there for work and as I'd never been I was tempted.

DS1 and I were there yesterday, we just walked in - there was a shop and a little ticket office but the White Rose exhibition is free, it's in the main part of the building (the Proscholium).

I think the only bits that are off limits are the actual colleges and faculties, we went to the museums and the libraries and a friend who met us said that he is on the mailing lists for various departments for talks and lectures open to the public.

Glitter the museums are fab - we went to the Natural History Museum, Pitt Rivers, and Ashmolean yesterday and could have spent hours in each.

There were also posters for concerts everywhere and the Oxford Arts Festival starts on June 21st, looked like some very cool stuff will be on. Wish we lived closer!!

An awful lot of Oxford colleges are open at least some of the time, FWIW. They usually have boards up saying if they're open and sometimes the porters on the gate will be friendly about people who want to wander around.
