I tried to book yesterday for my ds1's 18th birthday and they emailed to say they went into administration. I need something just like it for my son's 18th birthday dinner. Any suggestions please??

have a look at big moes diner (aldgate branch). the decor is amazing and the food/service was really good too.

alternatively, have a look at flamingos in fulham x

One of the meatliquors?

Wiifitmama · 11/06/2019 21:33

Thanks for your suggestions! Fulham is way too far for us sadly. We are NW London and looking for something more central or even over towards shoreditch. Big Moes looks like a great diner but it does not have the wow pf Pitt Cue...pig jowls, etc! I want some interesting meats beyond great burgers or even great steaks. Yes, I did think of Meat Liquor but although I know their meat is supposed to be amazing, it is still burgers. I am looking for sometime a little ore out of the ordinary I guess.

How about a Hawksmoor?

Wiifitmama · 11/06/2019 21:47

Hawksmoor looks just like a steak house from what I can see- a lovely steakhouse but still a steakhouse. No pig jowls or other such interesting things!

No! Oh that’s such a shame!

FreiasBathtub · 11/06/2019 21:49

St John? Not barbeque but weird animal parts aplenty. It is absolutely wonderful.

Wiifitmama · 11/06/2019 22:07

St Johns looks very interesting - thank you! I will have to run the menu past ds. It may be just a step too far! However, a certain possibility.

Still happy to take other suggestions! Pitt Cue was literally the perfect place for this dinner.

If it specifically bbq type food you are after then Smokestak in Shoreditch is as good, if not better than Pitt Cue. Dirty Bones are also pretty awesome (there are 3 or 4 in London), food not quite as good as Smokestak but they have great cocktails. The decor in the Shoreditch branch is also pretty cool.

TheFlis12345 · 11/06/2019 22:21

Oh and if you go to Smokestak, get the crispy Ox cheek stater, it is one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten!

Wiifitmama · 11/06/2019 22:26

Smokestack was one of the first places I found in my search and looked great. But when I looked at recent reviews, there were pretty bad. I wondered if it was one of these places that opened well and then went downhill? Have you been recently?

How about Temper in Soho? BBQ food, tacos, open kitchen, whole animal etc

titchy · 11/06/2019 22:29

Big easy in Covent Garden?

Racheyg · 11/06/2019 22:31

I love bodeans but I don't think they do pigs jowls. Smith at Smithfield's used to do an amazing pigs cheek but I'm going back about 10 years

TheFlis12345 · 11/06/2019 22:32

I last went to Smokestak a couple of months ago and it was great still.

FreeButtonBee · 11/06/2019 22:33

What about that trendy Thai place that does lots of offal in soho? Can’t remember the name but looks really cool

FreeButtonBee · 11/06/2019 22:33

It’s Kiln.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 11/06/2019 22:46

Can also recommend St John. Much more accessible in reality than the menu suggests! (And I'm not a massive offal lover)

nancy75 · 11/06/2019 23:08

Blacklock food is good but not sure if it’s interesting enough for what you want

nancy75 · 11/06/2019 23:10

It’s a shame about Pitt cue, loved the tiny restaurant behind Carnaby street but never liked the shoreditch one as much

BlackPrism · 11/06/2019 23:27

Bodeans?

BlackPrism · 11/06/2019 23:28

Theo beef rib is amazing

BlackPrism · 11/06/2019 23:28

Their* ffs

SerenavanderWoodson · 11/06/2019 23:30

Smoking Goat is the Shoreditch version of Kiln - both are great!

Fleabag123 · 11/06/2019 23:33

Smokestack is amazing (last visited about 6 months ago). I’d say if it’s the most similar option to Pitt Cue (so sad about them closing btw, I’ve loved them since they were a little food truck on the Southbank).
The Temper places are also meant to be good although I’ve not been.
