Dead skin on baby bump- what the hell?!

This is slightly random- I’m 20 weeks pregnant and now have a little bump.

Tonight before we got in bed DH rubbed some lotion into the bump for me (Palmer’s stretch mark lotion, if that’s important.)

A little while later I started rubbing my tummy just to make sure it had all gone in before I put my camisole on and noticed it was feeling sort of bobbly, so I popped into the bathroom to see what was going on and my tummy was covered in little bits of dead skin!

What the fuck?!

I had a shower this morning. I exfoliated with shower gloves (usually use a brush but the bristles are quite stiff so didn’t use it on my tummy).

Is this normal? Is it just because of the lotion? What the hell is happening? Help!

Don't worry about it. Your whole body is probably like it. Our skin has a layer of dead stuff on top and if you rub it (with or without lotion) it will come off no matter how often you wash.

Firstly, if it is dead skin then that is a pretty normal skin function, probably increased by your pregnancy hormones. But I’m wondering if what you’re describing is actually that “pilling” you get when you put too much cream on and your sling can’t absorb it all, so it just kind of balls up and rubs off when you touch it

Bob has it imo, it's just excess lotion.

Oh op get used to weird skin things ASAP, newborns are spotty, rashy little things and if you worry about dead skin on you now, it’s only going to get worse!

It’s fine. Your body sheds a whole layer of skin every 2-4 weeks. It might have just built up on your belly more and come away all at once. Or is the cream pilling like SlobDylan mentioned.

Ah I think you're right SlobDylan as I did think at the time DH had put on a little bit too much. It just felt so gross, especially having to wipe it all up off the floor... I feel queasy now just thinking about it!
