My son has a prized collection of animals that he really loves. Some of them are starting to get little splits and cracks in the material they are made of. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

The animals are mainly these ones. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DeAgostini-Frogs-Co-Maxxi-Edition-aussuchen-aus-allen-16-Froschen-Neu/312009707810?hash=item48a53a5122:m:mHUOsXdlb0-I4xFZ4NNBAow&var=610776916270

Rubber is a notoriously unstable material and once it starts to degrade, it's impossible to stop unfortunately. The only thing you can do is take steps to avoid further damage.

Extreme temperatures contribute to damage as does use...so the more he plays with them the more they'll wear.

Would putting them in an airtight container help?
