I've just ordered a cute little notebook and want to start writing down milestones & things about my baby, he's 5 months now so I'm a bit miffed I've only just thought about doing it.

Can you give me some tips on what to write?
I.e. just a date and what he did (rolled over) or more of a story?
Should I write it as it's for myself or more for him when he's older?

Just after opinions & tips really.

There are versions of this sold online which give you things to write about. You could google and get some ideas?

I have one that asks everything from:

What did mummy and dad do during the weekends before they had you?
What funny things do you (the baby) do?
What do I love most about you?
What the day of the birth was like
How I felt when I first met you
What mummy/daddy’s childhood was like
What was your favourite toy
What was your first toy
What gifts were you given when you were born

I wrote one for my DC to keep when they grow up (as my mum did for me). It mentions what they were like as a newborn, their favourite toy/book/game (ie peekaboo). Milestones like rolling over, crawling, first steps, first word etc. I just put their age and date for each. You could add a few photos if you like.

I tried to do this for my eldest daughter, ended up keeping a shoebix with some photos, her favourite toy from her babyhood, her first dress and a faux fur coat she rocked when she was a year old. Maybe just jot down cute things your baby does and anything else? Even favourite foods... this will change... and a place he visited, a photo. If you do the shoebox thing, a little notebook like this would be a great addition. Songs he loves... things he "said"...

Btw my daughter loves knowing now how she used to pronounce certain words... icree from icecream, Anthea for elephant, etc

For my dd (15) I used a proper baby journal until she was 2, but haven't really written much since.

I did for my Ds (7), just wrote a weekly, then monthly update in one of those baby books. I hate the contrived style of the official journals though. Now he's older I write in it at Christmas and at his birthday with a photo.

For my second Ds (who's 3) I started by doing monthly updates. Then forgot a lot. Now I write in it on his birthday and at Christmas. His is not nearly so full. Poor 3rd baby....

We also do a Christmas time capsule which is just a notebook where we write a family 'update' every January before the decorations go up in the loft. It's so nice when we get the decs down in December to read all these years of Christmas memories.
