HELP!! If you were charged at the end of your car lease, how long did it take for you to hear?

Hi all, I asked about this a couple of weeks ago but no one replied who had any relevant previous experience of this?

2 weeks ago we handed back our lease car. DD (aged 3) had an awful sickness bug and DH & I were up half the night with her. When the guy came to inspect the car, I stayed inside taking care of DD and DH went outside to speak to him at the end. The guy said we wouldn't get charged for either of the 2 small chips and commented on the good condition of the interior which was particularly clean.

DH (very stupidly) signed the paperwork without reading and then when he came inside he realised the guy had said most of the car panels were scratched or chipped (which they absolutely were not). We can only put this moment of madness by DH down to sleep depravation 😩 he just took what the guy was saying in good faith. Now we have the worry that we may get hit with a big bill.

It's been 2 weeks and we have heard nothing. At what point can we move on assuming we haven't been charged? If you were charged, how long after handing back the car did you get issued the bill?

I'm so grateful for anyone's experiences on this. I've tried googling but I just can't get any relevant info. Thanks.

When we handed back our car last year we were told of the cost by the man doing the inspection. We were then sent a bill for this amount the following week. Maybe ring them up and ask if there are any charges?

I was also told the cost on the day they took the car away. Mine was quite shabby but the man said most of it was fair wear and tear and I had to pay about £60.

Maybe when they looked properly at the condition they were happy with it and there will be no charge?

I think it will be ok op, the inspector has to note the condition but then it is for the lease company to decide whether to charge you, and they shouldn't charge for fair wear and tear. You need to phone them to check but I think the sleep deprivation is making you worry unnecessarily

I handed mine back on 20th may and received a bill on 31st. It had extra things on it (dents to panels etc) that weren't noted by the guy who came to inspect it so i've put a complaint in challenging it. All depends on which lease company you are with, A quick google search should show you reviews of the company and other people's experiences of handing the car back
