Sandy, Bedfordshire - nice place for a young family?

We are looking to move north out of London with our young daughter to be closer to family. We were originally just looking at the villages & small towns west/south west of Cambridge but due to lack of supply and high prices have widened our search and have stumbled across Sandy in Bedfordshire. There seems to be a decent supply of affordable properties, good schools and all the basic amenities we are looking for. Don't know much about the place and just keen to get views of what living there is really like?? Is a big move for us and don't want to pick the wrong place! Any well informed info much appreciated!

Hi OP

We're just giving this a bump for you. We're going to move it over to chat too so that more people can see it.
If you'd like, do feel free to post on your local talkboard, too.

Hi OP

I don't know Sandy that well, but have friends from Biggleswade and know someone who has some investment properties in Sandy but says she wouldn't choose to live there. I think it's an OK ish area, but not lovely. I believe the primary is very good though.

Have you looked at Gamlingay or Everton? Or slightly further into Beds somewhere like Shefford?

Oh and I think Potton is set to get a tonne of new houses, which might not be a good thing for the village.

Thanks @LilyMumsnet - am new on here so any support to get some responses is much appreciated!

@Wellthatwastricky - Thanks for the info, sounds much like we had thought from what we have seen on a quick visit and looking online. Not lovely but Ok. There seems to be a good supply of character properties at reasonable prices which is what has attracted us. Did have a look around Gamlingay but didn't particularly warm to it although I know it has a good reputation. Good to hear about the primary in Sandy - do you know which one specifically you have heard is good? Looks there there are 4 in the area.

I know a couple who live there. They call it a dump.
There is set to be some railway expansion. I have forgotten the details but it didn't sound good.
