Should I have an eye test if I can see ok?

I'm late thirties and I don't wear glasses. I can see fine. My sibling keeps banging on about I should have an eye test as they thought my eye looked funny one day. Confused
It's been about 7 years since I had one.
Thoughts?

Yes you should. Eye tests can pick up a host of other medical issues even if you have 20/20 vision. Think of it as checking your eye health rather than vision. Why did your Dsis think your eye looked weird?

Whitney168 · 07/06/2019 12:15

Yes you should, both for eye health and because vision normally deteriorates slowly enough not to be noticeable anyway.

Of course! They don't just look at vision, they look at all sorts like intraocular pressure, signs of high blood pressure, eye cancer etc etc

My husband is the same, perfect eye sight but I’ve encouraged him to get regular eye tests anyway. They don’t just check your vision they check your overall eye health. Some places even offer free eye tests

RuthW · 07/06/2019 12:27

Of course you should. They can pick up other things early when you have no symptoms such as brain tumours and cancers of the eye.

Seeline · 07/06/2019 12:30

Your vision might not be as perfect as you think. Your eyes start to change in your 30s, and they change slowly so you often don't notice. You should get them checked regularly, especially if you drive.

Eye test booked thank you

One word.

Glaucoma.

Clutterfreeintraining · 07/06/2019 12:48

I went last year for the first time in 16 years Blush
My friend had been trying to convince me for months that I'd need glasses. I went to the appointment and my vision was fine, no glasses needed.
Optician said my vision would likely start to deteriorate after 40.

tinytriumphs · 07/06/2019 12:56

I went regularly even before I needed glasses as there is glaucoma in the family.

All good so far and will keep going for check ups.
