Karndean, Amtico or Polyflor LVT flooring?

Which is cheaper?

Getting a conservatory, 3.6 x 2.4m floor covered in the next couple of days, and we need to make a decision.

Given that it is a conservatory, we'd probably choose the cheapest brand.

Any thoughts?

Karndean I think - we used something called true forest which is made in the same factory as it. Still going strong after 7years. Everyone comments on it.

MrsPerfect12 · 06/06/2019 19:10

All of them have different price ranges. I fully recommend sealing the floor after it's down. I think LVT is the cheapest but have a shop around.

We used a brand called hygienic in our bathroom (so high traffic). It's lasted brilliantly and was much cheaper than the karndean (which is generally cheaper than amtico).

We have Amtico throughout the downstairs of our house, and can vouch for its quality, durability and ease of care, especially with toddlers around. However, we got it as part of an end-of-line job lot from a local flooring warehouse at about 35% off of the face value. At full price, it would have been prohibitively expensive. I'd advise you to see if you can call around to find an independent authorised fitter too, as the one that we found did a great job and worked out a fair bit cheaper than the package that the flooring place was trying to flog us.

'Karndean, Amtico or Polyflor'

Off topic but at first glance I thought this was a baby names thread Grin

Glad it's not.

BigRedBoat · 06/06/2019 20:16

We have polyflor camaro which is cheaper than karndean and amtico, dh is a floor layer and says amtico is not worth the extra money and karndean is just as good and camaro is almost as good as karndean.

PoptartPoptart · 06/06/2019 20:50

We have Karndean. It looks lovely, but if I had realised that you can’t use a steam mop to clean it beforehand then I would never have chosen it... it’s a bloody pain to clean!

StillMedusa · 06/06/2019 21:00

We have had Karndean down for about 4 years now... 7 adults and 3 cats and it still looks fantastic. I damp mop it with Karndean cleaner every so often. Very hardwearing.

burrito · 06/06/2019 21:04

We have just got the LG polyflor equivalent on the recommendation of our flooring company. Looks great and we went for the non-click version. Have a look on floorbay.

DonkeyHohtay · 06/06/2019 21:05

Look at Moduleo too. We chose it for the kitchen over amtico, was a wee bit cheaper per square metre but really good quality.

Lackofsleepforyears · 06/06/2019 21:10

We have Amtico for the whole of downstairs and bathrooms upatairs. Very happy. 😊

Teddyreddy · 06/06/2019 21:21

Polyflor is generally the cheapest but they have a much narrower range. Durability is also about how thick the wear layer is (protective layer on top of the pattern) amd different ranges from the same brand have different thickness wear layers. From memory the cheapest Polyflor range has a thinner wear layer than the cheapest Karndean and Amtico. You can order free samples from all of them, we found ordering samples very helpful in deciding which to go for - in the end we went for something more expensive we liked better and that should last better.

Also, if you are anywhere near Evesham Karndean have a showroom there where you can see flooring areas of the different patterns made up of full size pieces. They will also give you a couple of full size tiles of any ranges you particularly like - which we found very helpful to get a sense of how the small samples they post you might look once fitted even if you don't go for Karndean in the end.

yearinyearout · 06/06/2019 21:24

Haven’t been happy with the karndean we had put down. Admittedly it was the cheaper end of their range, but it lost its lustre after about 3 years and now looks dull and crap.

gerbo · 06/06/2019 21:40

Our Karndean looks good as new after four years, extremely hard wearing with two children, 9 and 11. We don't wear shoes indoors so I mop not too often - with Karndean cleaner- and it's looking fab still.

GinisLife · 06/06/2019 22:45

I've got 72sq/m of Karndean right through the downstairs of my house. It looks lovely when it's clean 🙄. It's been down nearly 3 years. Floorlayer recommended something cheaper but just as good but when it came to it he couldn't get enough of it in time for the week he'd booked to lay the floor. I could find out what it was called. It was coming from Belgium.

My parents had an Amtico floor laid in the kitchen probably close on 50 years ago and when the house was sold last year it was still there and still looked like the day it was laid.

Hey guys,

I've been searching for this topic for a while and seen a decent blog post which might be useful to some people (https://flooringking.co.uk/blog/is-polyflor-camaro-as-good-as-karndean/) and it looks like their prices are competitive too, I've requested samples from them and waiting for them to be delivered.

Fingers crossed they come soon so I order for the new year

Polyflor Camaro - Arctic Slate 2341

Is Polyflor Camaro as good as Karndean?

Polyflor Camaro is a popular flooring range in the LVT world, take an expert look into Polyflor Camaro and it's competitor Karndean.
