When is the best time to find a rental property?

If I need to rent a 1 bed unfurnished flat (outside of London) is there a specific time that's best to look? I remember seeing somewhere that it was May (in which case I've missed it) and then again in December; maybe the thinking was that its every 6 months?

Also posted in property but here as well for traffic - thanks in advance.

I've moved around a fair bit, and other than finding an eviction notice that arrived over Christmas to be a pain because everything was shut, I've not noticed any clear trends in when is the best time to move.

Just start looking now and rent when the right property comes up.

Thanks Avocados.

Anyone else had experience of this?

Maybe avoid late August /September so you're not competing with students /student let's.

Students tend be organised in advance. We are in an area where there are a lot of military/family lets. They all seem to be sorted already for September.

IME most students sign for a property for their second / third year between December - March and then have a tenancy that runs July - June.

Invariably speaking properties are either student properties or not, and you're highly unlikely to find an unfurnished one bed flat being marketed to students.

Its not for students and we don't live in an area where any students would be - no universities round here.
