I’m having one soon as part of a hernia repair and was wondering how well you healed and how long you needed to take off work?
Thanks x

I had a traditional one with a scar I can hide in my pants. Not sure why you'd have one with a vertical scar as that cuts through so many more nerves and leaves you with a very visible scar.

The recovery time realistically is at least 8 weeks if not 3 months for a traditional one. I'd imagine more incisions would mean even longer healing.

I haven’t had one but I am a nurse that works on a plastic surgery ward so see them all the time. Realistically it’s a 12 week healing process sometimes longer. The consultant may tell you 6-8 weeks but that isn’t long enough at all. It’s a big operation with a large incision. Depending on your job will depend how long you’d need off, if you were my patient id be advising 2 months off work as a minimum with returning on light duties for a month afterwards if possible or 3 months off.

Brilliant info @harrypotterfan1604 thanks. Im a teaching assistant so not too taxing on the body and can sit if necessary.
