Do I need to see a GP or physio or podiatrist?

I have had problems with my left ankle for over a year and i finally went to see a physio during Feb/March. He gave me an exercise plan which I do everyday. However, the inside ankle bone is still swollen and I now find that I can’t rotate my left ankle at all. The toes move but the ankle bone stays rigid. I can manually move the ankle using my hands so it’s definitely a muscle or ligament issue. My Achilles Heel is also sore and I’m worried about snapping it.

I suspect that the GP will refer me back to the physio- but does anyone else know if this is a symptom of something else?

Thanks

Not medically trained but I would sack that physio! You should have had another appointment before now if only to check that the exercise plan wasn't doing any harm.

Dont waste your time with the GP- they will only send you to a physio

In the physio’s defence, I did go for a month and then he said that I didn’t need to go back. And at £50 a session I would quite like NOT to go back!

Wow - how often did you go in the month? Why did he say you didn't need to go back if the problem wasn't resolved? If it was me, I would see another physio (just once!!!) and get their opinion before going down the specialist route

if you haven't seen a gp about it in a year the damage may be irreparable, that's what my friend was told about her shoulder

When I broke my ankle I was under a consultation physio, not podiatrist. I saw a podiatrist for my plantar fasciitis though

Sports therapist. I have trouble with my right ankle after an injury, and have an hour of sports massage once a month to keep it moving well and almost pain free. They will be able to tell you what is wrong and use massage to loosen it up.

Thanks for your replies. I saw the physio each week for 5 weeks over February and March. He used the Tens machine to loosen up the muscles and gave me an exercise sheet which has helped about 70%. I didn’t realise that I couldn’t rotate my ankle until the other day.

I’d say back to GP, I think I’d be asking if it needs an orthopaedic opinion.
