Early scan at 7 + 5 weeks - measured 6 weeks no fetal pole

I went for an early reassurance scan at 7 weeks 5 days and all they could see was a yolk sac - no fetal pole and they said I measured 6 weeks. It was so far from the assurance I was looking for. Told me to come back in 2 weeks! Terrified of miscarriage!
I’m guessing this isn’t looking good for me? Anyone else experienced this ?

Was this a private scan or an NHS one? I had the same (though measured 5 weeks, should have been 7). It was a private scan and I also had a bit of spotting the day before so I booked in the next day with the EPU. They confirmed the same and had me come back a week later to check growth. Unfortunately, it was confirmed as a miscarriage.

If you haven’t been seen by the EPU yet, I would give them a call. They were wonderful.

Yes it was a private scan. I’ve got my booking in appointment with the midwife tomorrow as supposed to be 8 weeks and am hoping she’ll refer me to the EPU. I don’t feel pregnant anymore so I’m not holding out much hope :-(

You could have ovulated later than expected, it’s so normal to not be able to see anything this early which is why the NHS doesn’t offer earlier scans. It cause more harm than good quite often.

Speak to your midwife at your booking in appointment, but without pain and bleeding I don’t think she’ll refer you to the EPU. Fingers crossed for you though.

I had this with one of mine, but I had a very unpredictable cycle.

Like the PP said, not a lot of good comes from early scans which is why the NHS don't do them!

Keep an open mind and go back in 2 weeks. Good luck.

I had this, they said missed miscarriage but found a heart beat on a later scan (I was also bleeding heavily) DD was born two weeks earlier than expected but is now 16.

I hope it’s just too early just yet for the scan x
