Struggling to give up cocodamol!!

If anyone has any advice I’d be v grateful.

I was given 30/500 cocodamol by the dr for what turned out to be fibromyalgia pains a few years ago. I wish I’d never been given it. I’ve been trying to cut it down to stop it over the last six months, I’ve gone from the maximum dose a day to quarter of a tablet a day. However, now I’m having awful withdrawals and I don’t know how to cope. I get woken up in the middle of the night with dreadful restless legs; the urge to move them is insane, and when I do I get awful pains shooting down them. I was in so much pain and discomfort last night that I took another tablet in desperation.

How can I cope with this? The dr is useless and seems to know f all on this subject.

Are you sure this is withdrawals? Some people do get restless legs and it could be more of a seperate problem.

It sounds as if you have reduced your dose too quickly. Did you go from 8 to 0.25 in a day?

I'd be inclined to agree with @Teacakeandalatte - my SIL suffers from restless leg syndrome, and she's prescribed cocodamol to deal with that.

But I'd go back to your GP surgery and ask to see another doctor if I were you.

You need specialist advice, because otherwise you're going to get stupid comments like you have above. Restless legs like you describe are a symptom of codeine withdrawal, but people who don't know anything s about the subject will want to comment.

WTAF? How dare you say my comments are stupid!

Have you tried half a tablet of normal paracetamol? I take co dydramol during bad episodes and have more trouble coming off the paracetamol in it than the actual codeine.

No no, to clarify, I went from 8 tablets to a quarter over months not a day. Secondly I only get restless legs when trying to come off cocodamol. I keep getting to this point, not being able to bear it and taking a tablet again. I’ve tried the paracetamol in place of cocodamol but it doesn’t work.
