Pretty sure the answer is no - but is there a left luggage facility at Heathrow?

Due to some pretty crappy timing, I'll be returning from an overseas business trip the same day as flying out on holiday.

So will be landing at LHR terminal 3 late morning and flying out late afternoon.

So the question is where to leave my work items. Ideally I would like to leave them at LHR itself so I can pick up on my return from holidays when coming back to LHR.

Is there any left luggage facility in LHR (laughing hollowly in these days of heightened security and terrorism)?

Other options I thought about were:

  • asking my colleagues to bring back with them (but they are not based in the UK)
  • taking my work stuff with me on holiday (which to be honest is what I'll probably end up doing)
  • abandoning my work stuff - ie take crappy work clothes with me and ditching them, having papers shredded, and just taking my laptop and cables etc with me
  • asking the hotel to post to me (but this would most likely be at my personal expense).

I did play around with the flights etc - but there is no realistic prospect of getting home from LHR and then going back again. Which would have been my preferred option as i) I could dump my work stuff at home / in the office, and ii) I could pick up my holiday stuff and not lug it with me on my business trip...

Can you leave your car at the airport and exchange suitcases from the boot?

notacooldad · 31/05/2019 15:47

Is his what you mean?

Try left-baggage.co.uk

May cost a small fortune but worth a look

Yes, you can leave it, or get it shipped on with Excess baggage.

Or park in pod parking and swap bags over

It was quicker to google, copy ,paste and send than to read the OP.

Wow - that is super helpful - many thanks.

I'll store my holiday bag with left baggage while I'm on the work trip (save lugging it round for a few days).

As regards work clothes, it will be cheaper to throw them away than to pay for their storage for 3 weeks or have them shipped. So that solves that one.

Thanks again.

Other option might be to get a Fedex/DHL pickup from your hotel on the worktrip, or even post the clothes to yourself - surely you don't want to get rid of shoes etc

Nixen · 31/05/2019 18:26

Did you not think to look on the Heathrow website before typing that all out no?

Aridane · 31/05/2019 18:54

Well - clearly not - I was a panicky muppet and not thinking clearly Blush Blush

What a waste! How long is your business trip that you can't squeeze a couple of work outfits into your holiday suitcase?
I hate the throwaway culture these days. Angry

Frazzled2207 · 31/05/2019 21:58

Please don't just throw your clothes away that's horrendous.

caffeinebuzz · 31/05/2019 22:02

There are quite a few services these days who pick your bags up at hotel and courier straight home. I imagine they'd be cheaper that 3 weeks of storage at Heathrow.

Frazzled2207 · 31/05/2019 22:04

There will be a post office at Heathrow somewhere, you could send them home or to a friend

NicoAndTheNiners · 31/05/2019 22:07

There's a post office at terminal 3, could you post stuff home from there?

CMOTDibbler · 31/05/2019 22:32

I'd forgotten about that post office - it's upstairs before security. You could buy a postal envelope plastic bag before you go, pick your bag up from left luggage, pop into the loo and get changed and then pop the shoes and clothes from work into the bag and then just post it back to yourself. Won't cost very much

FinallyHere · 01/06/2019 11:56

When you get to Heathrow, DHL the work stuff back to your work address. Simples.

If you're happy enough to dump them why not ask the hotel to launder then and then offer them either to stay there or a charity shop? Please don't just throw them away.

SpaceCadet4000 · 01/06/2019 13:39

FFS don't throw out wearable clothes!

Either ship your work clothes back to yourself, your office, or a local friend. Or try and pack some versatile work clothes that you can use on holiday/pack light for the work trip.

listsandbudgets · 02/06/2019 06:42

You'll just throw them out??? What a waste.

Post them, donate them, take them with you, store them.. but don't just chuck them.

What a waste

Aridane · 02/06/2019 11:58

Great idea to ask the hotel to give to charity- thanks
