Well I booked a surprise week in Portugal for a new(ish) boyfriend - birthday present, only to find he had a terrible fear of flying, so I'm perhaps not the person to ask Grin

Perhaps wrap up the City Guide Book and write a note inside that you are going?

SuperPixie247 · 30/05/2019 14:06

I put the tickets in a guide book Smile

I did. My mother knew we were going on holiday but not where. We took a taxi from the house to the airport, but I asked the driver not to mention where we were headed for at that point, so it was only when we saw the signs for Gatwick that she knew we were flying somewhere. She found out the destination when we were at Check-in and the lass at the counter mentioned Napoli. She'd always wanted to go to Pompeii and finally at 71 she got there!

Took 4 xdc to Longleat 3 years ago. Managed to pack their stuff and the camping stuff late on, woke ds7 at 6 am and told him we were going on holiday!! He told me not to be so stupid and pulled the duvet back over!! Dd's were more appreciative!! Had a great time. Booked again this year.

A friend’s DP told her they were going to Blackpool for her birthday weekend. Made a real thing of it. He spent ages beforehand getting all excited about the Blackpooltrip and suggesting things they could do, where to eat etc, really encouraging her into the spirit of a fab Blackpool weekend.

Off they went to the station on the morning of the trip. He led her a merry dance all around the concourse as she got more and more panicked about their trains and frustrated about his muddling.

Eventually he pitched the pair of them up at the Eurostar terminal - for their no expense spared long weekend in Paris where she’d always wanted to go 😁

As I wasnt paying for the train tickets he knew where we were going, just not what we were doing there.

I didn't tell him anything until we rocked up at each place so he was surprised each time!

We did a game when we told the kids we were going to New York for Xmas one year. We found a load of puzzles on line and printed them out. When they solved them they got a letter - one clue a day to spell New York Xmas. Saved the Y, K and X until last so they couldn't work it out early!

My husband did this on my first birthday together gave me two language books and a book about the country we went to it made me cry as it was all so thoughtful.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 30/05/2019 17:43

Told exDP that I was taking him away for the weekend but refused to give the destination.

Rocked up at the airport, surprise revealed at check-in and then surprise no 2 when his cloests mates all appeared at the gate as we were about to board

Fireinthegrate · 30/05/2019 18:48

Husband surpirsed me with a weekend in Venice leaving home the day after my birthday. He put a photo of Venice in my birthday card, so I had about 20 hrs to get organised!

YorkieTheRabbit · 30/05/2019 18:52

Twice. Echo I booked a long weekend in Dublin, wrapped him up a Guinness glass with the tickets inside
DP, Paris, gave him a guide book.

borninastorm · 30/05/2019 19:00

I bought a You’ve got a surprise card off of Not on the High Street. It had a scratch off section that revealed the words “You’re going to Jersey”.
I bought if for my parents for Christmas as my dad went when he was a very young boy and has always wanted to go back there. Only took 70 years!

Loopytiles · 30/05/2019 19:02

Does he like surprises?

Bobcat249 · 02/06/2019 12:15

@loopytiles yes he loves them!
