Domestic Cleaner Should I, Shouldn't I?

Hi,

I work 3 days a week and find that during my days off I feel like I just waste time doing nothing so I have thought about advertising to clean people's homes and gaining some extra money. How would this work along side my current job as in would I be ridiculously taxed?

Also can anyone give advice on just going for it? Today I think it's a great idea but I know that eventually I will talk myself out of it through doubt and fear and believing that I won't be able to make anything of it. Why do we do that to ourselves? Am I ridiculous for even thinking of starting this up? Any success stories?

Thankyou

Starting a small side business can be a fun way to earn some money. You need to keep accounts and have insurance - although that doesn’t have to be particularly arduous. I think (though do check) that if it is less than £1000 a year you won’t be taxed anything more. DH and I both have sideline businesses (his is very unusual) they’re more like hobbies that earn money.

I started my own cleaning small business last October, it was totally what I wanted to do, it makes me happy, I love being my own boss, I love my clients and its a business that can be as small or grow as you would like it to. Its a relatively small outlay insurance, equipment, I wear a uniform, laundering cloths etc. I have not had to advertise as the business has grown through word of mouth and I'm fully booked, I also iron for some of my clients.
Go for it, I'm sure you'll love it, good luck.

Ah thankyou for your replies! I do read how people build up clients quickly and I do excited at the thought of it being a success so just wanted to try and bat away the self doubt! And yes although I do have another job being my own boss is something I've always wanted to do! I'm going to definitely go forward with this. Thanks again xx
