Smell of weed

Hi,
For about the last month we have been having problems with the smell of cannabis (skunk) in our flat here in Tufnell Park - originally, I would step out of my flat about 3pm and there would be the fresh smell of weed in our little foyer here on the top (3rd) floor, later it was a stronger but less fresh smell in my bathroom and passage: I asked my neighbours and in the beginning one of them agreed it was affecting them (but I spoke to them about a week ago and they say they are no longer having the problem).

Unfortunately my neighbour behind me, a different neighbour whose flat backs onto my bathroom and who I thought may be the cause of the problem does not open his door when I knock but it does not smell in the "foyer" of that section of our floor, it's weird. Circle/ Clarion are the freeholders so we definitely do not get any change out of them.

This is so miserable for us as we find it all a bit disreputable, having lived in Islington for approximately 15 years and have never come across this before, it is most unpleasant, any suggestions of what we can do about it?
Thanks in advance.

Knock on the door and ask to join in???!

Is it really pungent and seeping into your place or do you just not like the smell/ idea that people are smoking drugs in your vicinity??

There's worse things. They're unlikely to be partying till 3am, for example. They might order takeout quite a lot though!

Sorry to be flippant but really, there absolutely are worse things to be around. Its not for me but... live and let live!

That's not very helpful.

It is a very pungent smell seeping in to my flat at all hours. And yes, I also object to it.

If you can't give a helpful answer, probably better not to.

I would appreciate any reasonable suggestions as this is really unpleasant.

Why do we need to know all about where you live and the area. Do you want to post your name too Grin

Knock on his door or put a note through.

patriciatbrogan · 13/05/2019 21:01

I don't know where it's coming from, that is the issue

Could it be your partner or DCs blazing the weed?

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 13/05/2019 21:53

Oh yes... could be someone in your flat. Do you have teens?? Sometimes (ahem) people will try and point the smoke unsuccessfully out of a window.

Obviously any unpleasant smell that bothers you isn't nice at all, but if it's the moral thing that's bothering you I genuinely suggest you just leave it alone.

People do all sorts of immoral things I th comfort of their own homes. It's not worth getting into a stew about.

patriciatbrogan · 13/05/2019 22:10

No it's not, I live with my daughter and neither of us smokes, we are both distressed by the smell.

It's not the morality so much as the horrible smell.

You could ask your neighbour to use a Smoke Buddy.

patriciatbrogan · 14/05/2019 10:48

The problem is I don't know who is smoking the weed - it appears mysteriously in my bathroom and passage, in the early hours of the morning (!!) or in the afternoon and evening, the smell of it is evident in the building's lift and it can be smelt in our little foyer where our lift is here on the 3rd floor, and the smell of it is evident on the 2nd Floor.
As everyone is politically correct in this world, I can't go asking people. Eek, such a pain. Any help?

We had this problem too - we were renting at the time, so contacted our agency, though not much happened and we eventually left anyway for a variety of reasons. Could you contact the council about antisocial behaviour? Sorry to not be of more help.

patriciatbrogan · 14/05/2019 11:37

Thanks Cakemonger, I appreciate your sympathy. We have contacted our freeholder, so far they haven't been of much use!

Can you afford to move?

patriciatbrogan · 14/05/2019 19:26

Unfortunately I own the place so that makes moving more complicated

Were in the same position but luckily I know who smokes the weed, and as soon as I smell it (they smoke it outside their house), I go out and moan.

My last neighbour (also a weed smoker) said to me that she would have to behave around me as I have more rights (I own she rents).

I don't know what that really means as she didn't stay that long but if you find out who it is, you can find out if their address is owned or rented online, and you can write to their landlord.

patriciatbrogan · 14/05/2019 23:02

Hmm, unfortunately we don't know who it is - it is such a mystery. Today we had the smell of weed in our passage and my daughter pointed at our cupboard in the passage and wondered if it came from there, our one neighbour says its coming from downstairs and through the pipes - any thoughts on this?
