Bored shitless tonight and I was snooping around twitter and I came across the awful megxit tweets. The conspiracy theories are WOW 🤣

Anyway on one comment it said that the queen has custody of all royal children. I obviously thought it was bullshit but google has confirmed it. The Queen has full legal custody of any children born in to the royal family!

Am I the only person who didn’t know this?

Mute swans aren't actually mute - they don't half hiss if they get annoyed Grin

And the Queen (as in the Monarch / Crown Estate) owns all the foreshore around the coast - the area in between the low tide and high tide marks.

If the Queen owns all the land in the UK, why can’t she come on MN and sort out all the parking threads once and for all.

@lyralalala

I might have my Georges wrong, but it would be the same reasons.

The rule was brought in by parliament u fee George II because he chose a godfather for his grandson, but his son refused and wanted someone else. George II, being king, wanted to have the final say on the godfather of a future king but couldn't overrule his son (the baby's dad). He got parliament to make a law saying he was in charge of the royal children and their upbringing.

Again, could be wrong coz you can't always trust the newspapers!

And yes, OP, it looks as though you're the only person who didn't know this.

Even though the very next post says that they didn't know either?

For the record, I hadn't a clue either. I'm not sure why I would be expected to know other than having heard it in passing and squirrelled it away as trivia. I did know about the swans though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/05/2019 10:04

Some ancient laws have never been repealed, but that doesn't mean anybody's going to enforce them now!

I seem to recall one that said all men over 16 were required to practise their archery at the butts every Saturday.

As an aside, and because there are swan experts on here, I was driving along a lane through the nearby water meadows, close to the river, and noticed a couple coming along the path. Each of them was carrying a full grown swan. The swans looked completely relaxed and not at all distressed. I had the mad dog with me so couldn't stop to ask. What the hell were they doing?

Cornell lab’s bird app (Merlin) is brilliant - verging on magical as the name suggests in the way it can identify birds from tiny fuzzy phone pictures.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/05/2019 13:23

Anyone else reminded of this? Grin

The queen has custody!!
longwayoff · 11/05/2019 14:21

LOLGrin. Re enactment?

Nancydrawn · 11/05/2019 18:24

AnyoneButAnton I know! My grandfather always used to protect that it was cheating, as he had to learn from scratch, but then he started using Merlin and loved it.

Did you know that the land your house is built on belongs to the Crown? They could demand it back any time. (They probably won't though).

Al2O3 · 11/05/2019 22:50

That’s been said a number of times already upthread Myimaginary - it’s where freehold comes from. Free of servitude.
