Lying washing machine!

I've got a Samsung ecobubble machine, not had it long and still getting used to it.

I put a full load of cotton t-shirts, shirts and underwear on to wash at 12.30pm. I selected the cotton wash at 40 deg. The display said it was going to take 3 hours 10 mins. I thought "that's a bit much but never mind, I want it all to have a good long wash".

It's now 32 minutes since it started and the display says there's only 47 minutes left to run. So that's more like 1 and a quarter hours instead of 3 hours!

Why? Why even have a display in the first place?

What on earth are you washing that needs that long? Shock

I use my 30 minute cycle for everything and it comes out lovely and fresh.

BallyHockeySticks · 09/05/2019 16:05

pineapplepatty the longer programmes on my machine use significantly less water than the shorter ones.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/05/2019 17:03

The water goes into the machine cold. I don't believe it can warm up to 40, wash properly and do 2 or 3 thorough rinses in 30 minutes. Not for sweaty socks and gym gear, certainly.

My Bosch fins all the time. Only 1 minute to go? I'll wait around then...3 minutes later I leave it to it and it starts beeping at me when I get to the top of the stairs. Make your mind up mate.

EnidButton · 09/05/2019 17:05

Fibs

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/05/2019 20:10

I had a Bosch before this Samsung. I don't think I'll ever loathe a washing machine as I loathed that Bosch. It is well documented on MN!

The first wm I bought was an extremely basic Zanussi (obvs because that was all I could afford at the time) and it lived for 12 years!

All my subsequent machines have managed 5 or 6 years max. That's why I'll never spend more than £350 ish on them.

We have a 6 month old ecobubble. 40 degree quick wash takes about 1 hour 20 if you choose all 5 rinses. I disabled the annoying tune within 24 hours...God I hate those.
The 1400 spin definitely not as good as our last one (zanussi) but seems to wash OK.

However, all this is academic as I switched on last Saturday and got a 'door fault' message meaning nothing would work! Aagh! Nothing obviously wrong with it - engineer booked in for Saturday .

Which? Best BuyConfused

NotOnTheBench · 09/05/2019 22:14

My Bosch is a born liar. Timed the last 1 minute as 5m15s. Little toerag.

Glad I'm not the only who gets stupidly cross about it!Grin

Iwantacookie · 09/05/2019 22:22

Yes my bitch does this too. She's only a few months old too and already has been threatened with the scrap man.
I also think the bitch sometimes doesn't spin at correct spin Angry

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/05/2019 22:27

My car lies too.

low fuel light comes on.
"30 miles fuel left"

Drive gently for 2 miles
"20 miles fuel left"

Bastard.

LittleMy77 · 09/05/2019 22:29

chopin my samsung does the same too, its always with the towels as it can't distribute the weight properly!

ChiaraRimini · 09/05/2019 22:34

It's all a mystery to me how people go through washing machines I had a zanussi that lasted 21 years, had 3 kids in that time so average 4-5 loads a week. Inherited an old Miele which is still going strong . What do people do to break then?

Crunchymum · 09/05/2019 22:34

If my Ecobubble gets stuck, I have to take some washing out.

It truly is the worst machine I've ever had.

Crunchymum · 09/05/2019 22:35
  • timer gets stuck
Iwantacookie · 09/05/2019 22:37

Actually come to think about it my cooker and my microwave are utter bum suckers too.
I set the clocks on both of them to say the same time. A few days later they will be 5 minutes apart! How is that possible? Is there some weird time dimension in my kitchen?
(No it's not me pressing the buttons it happens when I've been on holiday too and noones been in the house)
I do get irrational rage at them then and accuse them both of being in it together Angry

NotOnTheBench · 09/05/2019 22:37

BreakfastAtSquiffanys my car told me once that I was doing 45 in a 30. The policeman who stopped me was lying too, obvs

roses2 · 09/05/2019 22:45

My Siemens broke down last week and I was gutted- it was the best machine I ever had.

The new LG i bought took 3 hours on a 60'c bedsheet wash! This means I can no longer strip the bed in the morning and have the sheets washed and dried ready for the evening. I cannot find a shorter wash at 60'c on this blasted machine.

LittleMy77 · 10/05/2019 00:18

I think machines are just getting shitter tbh. I have a samsung gas dryer and the equivalent of the fan belt in it was broken within 12 months! Also have a samsung dishwasher which is an absolute pile of shit, and broke soon after buying it. Tellingly, lots of our local repair places won't deal with samsung appliances, apart from tvs.

I deduce from this that they're generally shite for kitchen stuff!

TheDogsMother · 10/05/2019 00:49

Another one with a washing machine that lies. We have a Neff and it can stretch the last minute to an amazing degree depending on its software glitch or unbalanced load.

dointhedo · 10/05/2019 00:54

My Bosch fibbed ridiculously but to its credit lasted 11 years with no repairs.

Replaced it with a Samsung Ecobubble 4 years ago (yep, Which? Best Buy at the time), and it's not only a liar but a thief!!

The wash times are also a dark art (both over and under), and as of yesterday it's stopped working and is showing error code 3E which is BAD (either the motor or the circuit board according to Samsung - the former is covered by the 10 year warranty, the latter isn't); the error code even comes with its own theme tune! (Thankfully much shorter than the big finish number).

None of the local engineers will touch it and Samsung have allocated me someone in Wales (c.80 miles away), who was lovely but has quoted £200 for a doubtful repair. He says the motors never go, it's everything else that's the problem.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable replacement free-standing washer that I can have a reasonably healthy truthful-time and maintenance-free relationship with for say the next 7-10 years at around the £300 max mark?

julensaor · 10/05/2019 01:02

3 hours 10 mins, nothing needs to be washed that long though?

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 10/05/2019 07:40

this is partly why I have banished my washer and dryer out to the wash house

they can both sit out there in their own Room of Lies and get the hell on with it.

3 minutes...LIES
Cupboard dry? ....Utter Deceit
Quick Wash?? WHO exactly do you think you are fooling?
Anti crease tumble....I really don't think so, you bastard machine.

How long before the washer and tumble dryer turn the freezer and it stops humming away and keeping stuff cold??
It's a worry.

KooMoo · 10/05/2019 08:04

I share your frustration. My 60 minute power wash takes 89 minutes!

eggsandwich · 10/05/2019 08:11

I’ve got two samsung eco bubble machines and to be honest I take no notice as to how long it says as its always a lot less.

I’m really surprised at the poster who said it was the worst machine they had ever had as I’m on my 3rd and 4th samsung as they so reliable I wouldn’t have any other machine and believe me I’ve had a fair few.

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 10:29

We had a dryer and it was good until one day recently it just decided to die. No excess heat, smoke, flames etc. It just went out mid cycle peacefully. We've had it for about 6 years and it's as though it simply lost the will to live . It was over worked but reliable.
We now use the washer dryer which is rubbish. It tells us how long the cycle will last but then changes it's mind and does it's own thing.
