Why does ice smell like ice

It's all in the title. Drinking refreshing glass of water with those ice-cubes the freezer makes (visiting family, don't usually live this billionaire's lifestyle!) and the ice smells... icy. Very pleasant, and all that, but icy. Tell me the answers, magic internet women!

I'm not sure I've ever noticed ice smells but never leave open chopped onions in your freezer behind the ice machine because you will definitely unsuspectingly take a huge gulp of onion water.

Ice smells of fish finger crumb coating.

joyfullittlehippo Yes it does. I grew up in Canada and in the winter would eat icicles and snow. They both had the metallic-y ice smell and taste.
