iPhone XR users do you miss the headphone jack

I'm thinking about upgrading from my iphone6 to the iPhone XR.

I know you can get a device to plug your headphones into the charging port but does it interfere with the sound quality or do you use wireless headphones and are you happy with them?

I use the headphones to listen to music on my iPhone everyday both at the gym and while out and about

I have a new iPhone8 (xr was slightly too big for me) and it came with the usual EarPods but with a lightning end rather than the old jack. So you don't need to buy a separate thing.

AlbertWinestein · 08/04/2019 15:44

I did at first so I caved and bought Air Pods even though I look like a tool which is what Apple wanted us to do in the first ace, I guess

MissConductUS · 08/04/2019 15:45

I don't miss the headphone jack at all. The phone comes with Apple ear buds that use the lightening connector and I use Airpods anyway. The Airpods are brilliant tbh. I have the new ones and I live being able to skip a song or find a podcast by just saying "Hey Siri...". I had the older ones and loved those too.

I still have a pair of wired headphones but I just use them for the audio on my Kindle when I'm watching Netflix.

Sorry, posted early. I have the apple wireless AirPods too and I really love them. I forget I have them in if nothings playing and I'm so impressed with how far the range is. They're much better than I was expecting. Don't fall out either although I haven't used them exercising. I think you can get little earclips for them that are popular with runners etc.

StormyLovesOdd · 08/04/2019 15:45

Thanks Enid, I like the bigger screen size, means I don't have to find my glasses Grin.

I have the XS, don't miss the headphone jack, i have an iphone 7 for work and that had a jack to lightening adaptor luckily so i use that on my sony headphones (apple ones too big for my ears!)
The headphones that came with my phone have the lightening connector

StormyLovesOdd · 08/04/2019 15:47

Thanks everyone, you've helped me make my mind up. Time for an upgrade Grin

I don’t miss the headphone jack and my phone slot came with earphones with the lightening connector. They also came with a connector to turn them into a standard headphone jack as well.

MissConductUS · 08/04/2019 15:58

I love my XR. The facial recognition to unlock it works a charm and I love how the screen goes edge to edge. The battery life is fab too.

It's a great phone, you won't be sorry.

Gabrielknight · 08/04/2019 16:06

I don't have the iPhone but I have a phone with no headphone jack. I use my Bluetooth ones mostly but I do miss it for convenience

EnidButton · 08/04/2019 16:09

Stormy I have achy hands so any bigger was a stretch. Literally Grin Plus I was going from a little SE. The screen is very good on the xr. Enjoy your new phone.

BibbityBobbityEars · 08/04/2019 16:29

Fantastic phone. You won’t regret it! Love the face recognition, has a great camera, and it holds its charge so much better than any other apple device I’ve ever had.

I never use headphones so I can’t answer that question but it definitely came with some.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/04/2019 16:54

I 100% miss it.

I have a wonderful set of Bose overear headphones I can’t use. I could get the wireless set but they’re nearly £300.

I use the supplied earphones, they make my ears ache and I have terrible tinnitus. Not saying others would be better but I do have tiny ears!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 08/04/2019 16:56

I gave up on wired headphones well before apple gave up on headphone jacks, so it’s made no difference to me. I don’t ever use apple earphones as they’re the wrong shape for my ears. I use over the ear Bluetooth ones instead.

breadzeb · 08/04/2019 17:02

I have a wonderful set of Bose overear headphones I can’t use.

Why can't you use them?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/04/2019 17:04

Because I’ve nowhere to plug them in?!

breadzeb · 08/04/2019 17:07

Because I’ve nowhere to plug them in?!

Dongle?

Simple fix.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/04/2019 17:23

That severely reduces the sound. And is another thing to lose (yes I lost mine Blush)

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/04/2019 17:24

Reduces the sound quality I mean!

DryHeave · 08/04/2019 17:25

Can’t use a power pack to charger at the same time as headphones now. Annoying.

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/04/2019 17:26

Yes, I miss having the choice. It's the only real niggle though.

womanhuman · 08/04/2019 17:35

I’ve more or less stopped listening to/watching anything when the kids are around. It’s too much trouble now - I’ve always just gone and used the headphones out my laptop, which I now can’t do. Having to keep track of separate headphones just for occasional phone use isn’t going to happen.

Glittertwins · 08/04/2019 18:11

It's a bit of a pain when I forget the lightning connector for the phone and I can't charge it at the same time as having earphones plugged in. I have the air buds but am glad I didn't actually have to pay for them. They get knocked out my ears really easily - think wiping face at gym and catch the bottom of them, woolly hat over my ears in winter. If I was going to pay for some wireless ones, I'd make sure they were on a band that went around the back of my head instead!

GoGoJo · 08/04/2019 18:26

It's really irritating. The first set of headphones broke after about a year and I lose the stupid adaptor thingy all the time.

Wireless headphones drain the already terrible battery and I forget to charge them.

All in all really irritating. I will still get an apple phone next time though- I hated my Samsung more.

StormyLovesOdd · 08/04/2019 18:47

Does the dongle thing only work with Apple headphones? The Apple ones always seem to be the wrong shape for my ears and they fall out
