My ds got a Strider at 18m and rode a bike without stabilisers by 4.

I think they are great

We had an Islabike Rothan, which both kids loved (still do), and were both riding pedals by just after 3.

We bought the Rothan new, but have definitely got our money worth, plus they sell on well. The kids are still riding Islabikes bought second hand, and we plan to sell on to fund the next sizes.

Ds is 2.4 and LOVES his balance bike
He's picked it up really quickly, I've been impressed by how quickly, he's like a bloody whippet on it.

Mine started on balance bikes at age 2 or 3. They both were able to pedal unaided within 5 minutes of getting on a pedal bike at 3/4.

My ds had a balance bike and went straight to riding a 2 wheeler age 5 (not bad given he's dyspraxic and hypermobile). My dad, no balance bike, petrified of having her stabilisers taken away at age 10 (autism, so extra anxious anyway). I've just got her a Frog bike and am going to take the pedals off. I'm determined that this is the year we teach her to ride a 2 wheeler.

We used an Islabike rothan for both dcs. By age three it would have been a bit wee.
Not sure if there are bigger balance bikes on the market.
