Why does being on my period make me pee so much?

MeowthThatsRight · 14/03/2019 22:03

From about 5 days before and then for the first couple of days of my period I find myself peeing about every 45 minutes. No increase in volume of pee I just need to go loads more.

Does anyone else have this at all? Does my womb swell up or something before my period? I’ve only noticed it since having dc’s but it drives me mad.

Yes, me! It's driving me mad - I have no idea why it happens either, but I seem to swell up then pee it all out Sad

qwertyskirty · 14/03/2019 22:31

Some sort of water retention issue? And then the retained water... coming out?!

Chilledout11 · 14/03/2019 22:33

I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. I have visions of my womb inflating like a balloon and pressing on my bladder.

Handay · 14/03/2019 22:36

I find this too! No idea why.

not going to mention period shits. oh I just did

WeShouldOpenABar · 14/03/2019 22:41

I think it's muscles relaxing I get clumsy too it's all connected

ihatethecold · 14/03/2019 22:49

It’s a drop in Oestrogen I think
Now I’m on HRT ive stopped peeing every hour.

DannyDyersPants · 14/03/2019 22:51

I'm same! I always think it's all the blood in my womb pressing on my bladder - not a drama queen at all

PeakTransedAgain · 14/03/2019 22:54

Me too!

ALargeGinPlease · 14/03/2019 23:17

And me, it's really annoying.

Samind · 14/03/2019 23:18

@handay. The unspoken truth 😂😂😂😂

alltoomuchrightnow · 14/03/2019 23:25

yes it's water retention but also I have to wear the biggest size tampons (super plus extra) and they definitely make it worse with pressing on the bladder

Handay · 15/03/2019 00:10

@Samind 😁 I have also killed the thread. Sorry OP.

Hidingtonothing · 15/03/2019 00:22

I put the extra peeing (and pooing, I'm not scared Handay Grin) down to all the muscle activity, I get quite bad cramps the first day or two and that's when I spend most time in the loo, it feels like my body is just trying to expel everything!

EnidButton · 15/03/2019 01:50

Have you ever had a scan when not pregnant? I've got a retroverted uterus (tilted backwards and up towards my back) which presses in my bowels causing javelin bum (!) when I'm on my period and I have to go to the loo more. An anteverted uterus is kind of the opposite and tilts forwards and downwards and leans on the bladder. Presumably with water retention and a thick womb lining it'll press on it and make you pee more?

Neither position has any negative affects on feritility etc and I believe they can 'correct' themselves to a more usual position when someone's pregnant so often never noticed.

Prob way off and it's just water rentention but just a thought.

EnidButton · 15/03/2019 01:52

presses in my bowels* Jesus I meant on^ them. In them would be a whole other issue Confused.

EnidButton · 15/03/2019 01:58

You know what I googled and most women have the tilted forward type apparently so it's normal and I'm talking out of my arse so take no notice of me. Grin

GreenDragon75 · 15/03/2019 05:37

I always thought it was hormonal - not sure which one but the same one that makes you pee a lot when first pregnant (well I do anyway).

LowLifeOpinions · 15/03/2019 07:29

It is hormonal. When you are pre - menstrual, a hormone kicks in that makes you retain water (and get thirsty, puff up a bit and get constipated) and then when your period comes, another hormone kicks in that makes you release all the retained water (and do big poos).

PerpendicularVincent · 15/03/2019 08:34

I feel like a tap Sad

labazsisgoingmad · 15/03/2019 08:50

Water retention used to be a real pain for me but was good that i could fit in clothes better

LivLemler · 15/03/2019 08:57

Yeah I retain a load of water beforehand and then spend my life peeing for the first couple of days. I can have up to 3lbs difference in weight! I may feel like shit during the first few days, but I also feel at my slimmest. Grin
