4 year old DS is only 95cm tall

My DS has just turned 4. He's quite slim and he is only 95cm tall. He's the smallest in his class, smaller than all the girls too.

He has no shortage of energy! He is quite a picky eater but is also taking multivitamins. I'm little, 4ft 9", and his dad is 6ft.

Is he just wee like me or do I need to be worried?

Maybe take him to the GP if you are concerned. My daughter is 22 months old and already 90cm. She does seem to be tall compared to other kids her age though.

My four year old son is 101 cm I don’t think 95 is worryingly small.

Smellybluecheese · 09/03/2019 23:59

Mine is 96cm at 4.5 years. I’m short like you. I wouldn’t worry.

Doesn’t seem that small? My step daughter is 8 and only just about 125cm.

Birdie6 · 10/03/2019 04:13

You're 4'9" so your son is probably going to inherit at least some of this . See your doctor if you're worried .

PhoenixBuchanan · 10/03/2019 04:37

Well you're 4'9" so obviously genetics are at play. My DD will be 4 in July, she's 95cm too. It's the 9th centile for girls and 2nd centile for boys at that age, which is nothing to be concerned about, especially if a child has always roughly followed that line. It's on the chart, not underneath it. It might reassure you to know that the 2nd centile height for men is 5'6"- really not that short!

mangolover · 10/03/2019 06:28

I don't think that's small either.
At 4 my ds was only 85cm just.

He's still by far the smallest in the class now but somebody has to be, those are his genes

WreckTangled · 10/03/2019 06:32

I measure children in reception and we get a handful of 4-5 year olds that are a similar height. It's not something I would be concerned about.

SweetheartNeckline · 10/03/2019 06:38

My 5 year old is little, people have always commented. She reached 1m in shoes at 4y5m (as we pnly just had to pay for her at Peppa Pig World, where they're strict). www.infantchart.com/who2to5statureforage.php This suggests he's just below the 2nd centile which is on the small side, but perhaps he's due a growth spurt!

RiddleyW · 10/03/2019 06:44

I’m not sure exactly how tall my 4 year old is but he’s normally the smallest in any group. Like you I’m short with a tall DH I guess he just got my height genes.

I’m not sure at what point you’re meant to worry - I mean somebody has to be shortest. I do worry he’ll find it tough when he’s older but my father and one of my brothers are really small and both have fantastic jobs and lovely partners so I think DS will be ok.

ColeHawlins · 10/03/2019 06:49

Is he maintaining the same percentile line in the growth chart in his red book?

IamChipmunk · 10/03/2019 07:03

Another dinky one here! Ds is 4.5 and under 1m. He still mainly wears 3-4 clothes.
Im 5ft4 and his dad 5ft10. His dad didn't hav a big growth spurt until puberty apparently!
My dad was also on the shorter side. Probably 5ft7 or 8 so he is genetically never going to be massive.

He was weighed and measured at school and it didnt raise any concerns.
He was born on the 9th centile and pretty much followed that.

I wouldn't be worried. Ds main problem is he gets really cross that he cant go on a lot of waterslides at swimming pools as loads are 1m20 and he is nowhere near!!
