Have you found spiders in your grapes?

In the last month I've had three packs of grapes from different supermarkets with the remains of a spider and cobweb in them Shock

As an arachnophobe this has not been pleasant. I've never experienced this before, is it quite common or have I just been unlucky?

I am pretty upset by spiders and have never had this. We get two punnets a week.

TheClaifeCrier · 09/03/2019 09:10

Perhaps I am unlucky then!

No, but I once found a tiny dead frog in a box of bananas.

No. But I have had a 2kg punnet of strawberries with a maggot in every one Envy yack! I stopped de-stalking them after the 15th wriggler.

ChrisPrattsFace · 09/03/2019 09:20

I have had spiders in my grapes! Many times!

EstrellaDamn · 09/03/2019 09:22

No, but I once opened a bag of peanuts to find all of them wrapped inside a web alongside a dead spider Envy

elQuintoConyo · 09/03/2019 12:05

This thread is awesome!

Arachna-bump! Grin

Bezalelle · 09/03/2019 12:12

Estrella, I would DIE if that happened to me.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 09/03/2019 12:15

well, i shan't be touching grapes again anytime soon!! I already do not touch bananas for the fear

I have enough bother trying to use black bananas in banana bread without actually touching them or smelling them.

I don't really like grapes either, so this is the last straw.

Punxsutawney · 09/03/2019 12:17

I once found a snail in some grapes from Asda!

TheClaifeCrier · 09/03/2019 12:26

Well I've just spent quite a long time in Asda scrutinising the grapes so hopefully I'm spider free Grin

I’ve also had them in my bananas! I threw my banana skin on the fire and the bottom/end started bubbling and about twenty tiny tiny spiders came bursting out.
Still eat bananas. And grapes 😂

Gingerkittykat · 09/03/2019 13:31

Nope, this is my worst nightmare. My family laugh at me for carefully scrutinising both bananas and grapes for spiders before I buy them.

Were they organic grapes? I read somewhere that they often use black widows as pest control instead of chemicals. I would rather have chemicals over spiders any time.

whippersnapperwrapper · 09/03/2019 13:38

They're used instead of pesticides in some places, less environmental damage

HarryDaylight · 09/03/2019 14:25

Estrella, that's the stuff of nightmares. 🤮🤮🤮

amusedbush · 09/03/2019 14:27

Not a spider but a green shield beetle climbed out of a punnet a few years ago (I had to google to make sure it was nothing too nasty!).

I was horrified and didn’t buy grapes for ages afterwards Blush

vampirethriller · 09/03/2019 17:18

No but I was bitten by a spider from a bunch of bananas.

Oblomov19 · 09/03/2019 17:20

No. Never!

InMyBloodstainedSundaysBest · 09/03/2019 17:30

Have had plenty of spiderwebs, but no actual spiders unless they escaped into the house before I saw them Grin

However, someone once gave us some cinnamon stick from.. I forget where but they'd been on holiday and bought it 'fresh', it was a huge chunk of bark, not like the piddling things you get in the shops here. Anyway, put it away in a (thankfully) airtight, but seethrough container and forgot about it. Came to use it a few months later, and there was a GIGANTIC cockroach in the box! It had chewed up the plastic wrapping on something else in the box I guess looking for food but it was dead by the time I found it.

I had to fight SO hard to resist the urge to fling the container across the kitchen when I noticed it incase it was still alive. Grim.
