Who else has done F All for WBD tomorrow?

6 year old has a Chase onesie kicking about he can wear. I don't like onsies outside of the house really cos of him using the loos and potentially trailing the sleeves accross pissy toilet floors etc but it'll have to do.

10 year old hates dressing up and hasn't given me an answer as to what he wants to wear. He'll happily go in normal uniform and be a grinch, but if I can persuade him to participate I can possibly knock up a mask and he can go as the kid from Diary of a Wimpy Kid with not a lot more effort.

What's everyone else got planned?

Ds2 told me this morning he wants to dress up as Sherlock Holmes Hmm

Told him he can wear his football kit and go as a David Beckham biography Grin

Bought a sequinned dress in the sale from Tesco tonight as DS decided yesterday he wanted to be The Boy Who Wore A Dress

World book day is a horrific invention.

I’ve made two costumes by hand for the first time ever and both of my children have rejected them. They were a bit shit, but still.......

Now they have to go as princesses AngrySad

My son is 3 and a half. He's a bit young for the costumes I've seen (making something was not an option I'm useless at creative stuff).
He got a book from nursery for Christmas and the main character wears a stripy rainbow jumper. He loves the book so I found a navy jumper with bright stripes on part of it, he is wearing that with navy jeans and a navy t shirt underneath.
Nursery said it was fine for him to wear that, and at least a jumper he can wear again (I don't really like it but it's ideal for the purpose of tomorrow). (The chase costume he wore last year he wore for that day and never again. We gave it to the nursery for the dress up box in the end).
I feel a bit bad that I haven't made more effort for him, but it's his current favourite book.

@cliffdiver what on earth are you googling to get that advert 😂😂😂

Knittedfairies · 06/03/2019 21:03

Could he wear his ordinary clothes and go as a muggle?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 06/03/2019 21:03

I hate World Book Day. It’s now left it’s original intention of promoting reading, and has become a fancy dress farce.

In junior school dd had a meltdown every single WBD about her costume. She suffered anxiety and could not cope with not being able to wear her uniform. It was bloody awful every year.

And I’m a teacher and l hate it because l do not want to dress up. I honestly find it degrading and so do several of my colleagues.

jinglewithbellson · 06/03/2019 21:08

Our school have decided no costumes (thank god)but instead to take a book and some items so other children can guess the character Smile

Great idea I thought. I'd rather donate the money I would spend on a costume to the school to buy more books as a lot of ours are falling apart and I believe most of us parents agree.

My dd 8 has made her own little box of eat me treats and a fob watch all on her own tonight.
Watching her get excited about actually being involved and making some items herself has been far better than trawling around to find an outfit that will never get worn or fit her again and doesn't have much imagination

heebie · 06/03/2019 21:08

Bloody hell is world book Day tomorrow? I've marked it down for Friday. Luckily ds is wanting to do the same thing he does every year and go as some Marvel superhero we already have the costume for Hmm

Worldshohohokayestmum · 06/03/2019 21:10

My DD is going in her pyjamas and will be Sophie from the BFG.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 06/03/2019 21:10

Mines over and done with! Ds 5 had his today as they on a trip tomorrow. He went as Thor because a comic is classed as a book imo Smile A bargain from Sainsbury's online at £5.50 Star

HeyMicky · 06/03/2019 21:18

Our school doesn't do anything for WBD 🎉🎉🎉

DD2 is going to preschool as Six Dinner Sid, as her sister did before her, becuase we already have cat accessories and black clothes.

KataraJean · 06/03/2019 21:19

DS is going as one of the people in his Boys Who Dare to be Different book, which involves him wearing normal trousers and a t-shirt and taking the book with him Smile
I am happy to support the usual fundraisers etc but I totally object to these made up things which assume parents have money or time to throw at costumes etc. It is like these days where children have to come wearing a certain colour or some other random made up thing and you find out the night before...

rallytog1 · 06/03/2019 21:43

DD is going in her school uniform as Matilda Grin

AllGoodDogs · 06/03/2019 21:44

Done 👌👌😂

No costumes at my DC’s school, thank heavens! They’re doing “wear something silly” for comic relief soon instead which is much easier. And “bring a book” for the youngest. I want to kiss the head for making that decision!

ShirazSavedMySanity · 06/03/2019 21:51

DS is wearing a dress of his sisters and going as the boy in the dress 👍🏻

42andcounting · 06/03/2019 22:07

Our school has said no fancy dress, just bring in a favourite book and throughout the day they will "drop everything and read". So much win!!!!!

But thanks for starting this thread, because it reminded me I forgot to get DD to choose a book before she went to bed GrinBlush
