How many colds do you get every winter?

DH has come home and gone to bed with a cold. This is his second cold since Christmas, and his 5th since September. They’ve all put him in bed for 2-3 days. This is fairly typical and I am pretty sure that’ll be the last we see of him pretty much for 2-3 days. He’s director or a medium size company, and deals with HR issues, so basically no one is chasing him. Wherever I hace worked i’m pretty sure this lea e of sick leave would trigger an HR meeting.

I’m keeping a mental note of DJ’s colds because he seems to get so many! I’ve had 1, which only required an early night! At the end of April, he’ll get wiped out with hay fever for 3 months!

DH thinks this is a normal amount of colds, and that missing 10+ days of work every winter is normal? He doesn’t see any reason to see the GP. He doesn’t eat a terrible diet, but very little fruit. Plenty of veg though.

Does this seem like a lot of colds? Every time this happens he becomes incapable of doing anything; go to work, take dc’s to breakfast club, pick them up from school, etc. I’m already mentally rearranging my day tommorow, so that I can take and collect the dc from school, go to work and probably run around after DH.

This might be helpful: www.healthline.com/health/psoriasis/moderate-to-severe/ways-to-boost-your-immune-system-with-psoriasis

If his prosiasis is controlled by Aveeno, it doesn't sound too bad. If he was on biologic drugs, they'd affect his inume system. But not Aveeno...

1-3 per winter is about average for us. I'm pretty good with hand hygiene, which I'm sure helps.

It was more when I was younger. I remember getting 11 in 12 weeks when I moved to another country as a student. I was clearly exposed to a whole new set of germs, and probably a bit stressed getting used to life in a foreign country. I also had a blip after having a baby where I caught everything going for about three years. I was getting no decent sleep and living with a snot monster who passed everything on to me.

I very rarely get colds even when the rest of my family do (and I’m in very close proximity with them so in theory I should) but I put this down to the fact that I use a tongue scraper. I read this once and whether there is any truth in it I don’t know (probably not!) - it seems to work for me though Smile

I hadn't had a cold at any time of year for decades and boasted about it to my friends and then..Wammo! - just before the Christmas just gone, I visit my little bro' and his fiance gives me a cold!!!! TBH not a bad one but still knocked me for six as I not used to feeling like that!!!

I usually get one nasty cold/virus a year (in the middle of it now!), plus a few episodes of sniffles/swollen lymph nodes that don’t lie me low and are more like my body fighting off the virus
