School application - talk me down

Waiting for school allocation results for year 7. You can log in at midnight. I went to sleep and woke at 2am and looked and there is nothing there at all.

I definitely submitted it. Got email confirmation. Other people locally posted their results after midnight.

Nothing I can do till the morning and ring them to see what the fuck is happening. But Jesus fucking Christ I'm panicking

Tried to go back to sleep but no chance of that.

It's the right place as council posted the link. Right login.

I am here alone and can do fuck all and am panicking.

That seems unnecessarily convoluted but at least you have the reassurance that his application exists. There must be a quicker way to resolve it though - why should you be left dangling because of their error. Am not usually a complain and complain type but I'd be tempted to ring back and query how that response is at all reasonable...

Peridot1 · 01/03/2019 10:03

Wow. So because of an admin error at their end you have to wait up to ten days? They do know it’s the 21st century? They don’t have to send somebody down to a dark basement to rummage around boxes of files.

Surely it should be easy to pull up the info and send it to you?

Justaboutawake · 01/03/2019 10:03

Well I just checked mine and apparently the results won’t be shown until after 7pm!!

Thanks all - I did phone back, super polite but still no. She could see my email asking on their system but can tell me when I'd get a reply.

Have asked his current school and they said they don't know when get info yet.

Call your 1st choice school and ask if he is on their list. Say your email has an error so you don't know 100%.

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 10:28

@JuliaAndJulia oh do you think they'd tell me?

OP posts:
wowfudge · 01/03/2019 10:30

Got to be worth a shot

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 10:59

Cool - if o haven't heard anything this afternoon will ring them

OP posts:
JuliaAndJulia · 01/03/2019 11:18

What's the worst that could happen? They might say - we can't tell you. You don't have anything to lose. I'd call them this second Grin

I've done a lot of such calls and inevitably you do find out things from where you weren't expecting it.

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 11:42

Tried and school don't have a list yet. Back to waiting.

I found out about 4.30pm two years ago. All my daughter’s friends had heard first thing which was so annoying.
We still got our first choice, but was a different school to other people in our year.
Good luck.

2rachtin · 01/03/2019 12:02

This is SO frustrating for you

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 13:55

Still nothing. Also realised if I don't get an email I can't accept the offer

OP posts:
havingtochangeusernameagain · 01/03/2019 15:09

Then call the council back again and tell them you need the offer so that you can accept it (assuming you need to do so straight away or faster than 10 days). They need to get off their bottom and do their job properly. A 10 day wait is not acceptable.

JorahsMistress · 01/03/2019 15:35

Is it that they cant tell you because their system is having an error or because they cant tell you full stop? If its the latter thats bloody ridiculous, they are the admissions office!!

And 10 days is a stupid time to have to wait, maybe you will get lucky and get an email later tonight, happened to me with my eldest years ago, lots of my friends had got their emails first thing in the morning, but due to a system failure me and alot of others didn't get ours till gone 8pm, so don't give up hope just yet Thanks

wowfudge · 01/03/2019 15:43

I'd go to the council offices. It's a lot harder to find someone off in person than over the phone. Take photo ID and a copy of the email confirmation you received. Unless there are thousands of people affected, why can they not tell you over the phone?

Starlight456 · 01/03/2019 15:49

Can’t they send it out postal. That would at least be quicker

Jins · 01/03/2019 15:53

Contact your local councillor and tell them about the problem and the issues it causes. They can be surprisingly effective at speeding things up

Elections in May....

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 17:09

Some answers...

They know but can't tell me as policy. Can't go to council offices as the dept is t actually in there or has access to the public.

I have progress though. From other 11+ scores lower than his have got his 1st choice so it will be he does too.

I phoned for a third time and said still no email. And they are posting out an offer now.

And no this year you don't have to accept the offer it is automatically accepted. But I still want a copy of it obviously to see 100%

Once I've got that I will be making a complaint about it all.

I understand their policy, but it was their mistake. And their is a huge flaw in the system as proved by our application disappearing on their portal.

Been a very long day... looking forward to bed tonight!

Thanks all for the support and advice. It has been really helpful and kept me sane, especially at 2am!

Once I've got that piece of paper in my hand then I'll confirm it.

OP posts:
DyslexicNotThick · 01/03/2019 23:52

Crikey what a draining day this must have been for you. Great news that lower scores are getting his first choice. Should he not be offered it you have great grounds for appeal there.
How is your ds? My DC would be really affected by this I imagine.

Flowers, wine, chocolate...whatever your position is, you deserve it after this fiasco.

meditrina · 02/03/2019 19:31

As they appear to be admitting that mistakes have been made, I think it is really quite important for you to state your understanding of all the telephone conversations you have has in an email to the head of the admissions team.

A contemporaneous record might be important if there are further fuck ups. But I hope there won't be

nosleepformetonight · 02/03/2019 21:15

@meditrina yes next week I will be writing in to highlight the issues and the effect it had.
