Advice please 4 week old infected finger?

Does this need medical attention?

I just spotted my 4 week olds thumb - tiny corner has pus in it.
I must have done it when cutting her nails a few days ago Sad

What will a doctor do anyway?
I’ve put breastmilk on it.

My daughter got quite a few of these when she was tiny in exactly in the same place on several different fingers, I couldn't work out what caused them. I just used to gently squeeze the pus out, give them a wash with salt water and they healed up fine. I never took her to the doctor for it (although that could be terrible advice.) They never came back once I got rid of them in this way.

Poor thing! Do you have any antibacterial hand wipes? I would use those to keep it really clean. Boots do ones for sensitive skin which should be gentle enough if it's just on her hand.

It’s an ingrowing nail from being cut too short. Easily done.

I would bathe in cooled boiled water and keep an eye on it. Ideally you need to release the pus. I wouldn’t panic yet about infection spreading or sepsis but keep a close eye on it.

Thanks for replies!
I’ve just squeezed a bit of pus out she’s squealed Sad

Will a tiny bit of germolene work?

If you can get it to drain without too much trauma to little one then I'd try. If not poo her to the nurse and see what needs to be done

Aww, my nephew used to get this on his toes a lot, I would also recommend cooled boiled water and salt to bathe it in..

I wouldn't recommend antibacterial hand wipes for such delicate skin..

I don't think u need a docs visit tho

Aah that makes sense Hawthoria

I will stick to a nail file for now Sad

When my baby was that little I would chew there nails off, not peel as that will give u ingrown nails but just nibble at them..

My DS1 had this instead of squeezing pus we sterilised a fine needle and used thisto break the top layer of skin - the pus came out of its own accord then we put breast milk on. Cleared up very quickly.
