Restaurant pet peeves.

What are your pet peeves in restaurants?P.S I know what a difficult job working in a restaurant is and how hard it is to run one is but I still want to have a moan.

Over sauced pasta for me. I like a light coating only. I know that most people prefer more sauce than I do which is fine but I don't expect to have to call in Tony Robinson and co to excavate my fusilli.

Food served on wooden boards. They've ruined more than one pizza/sandwich for me. The boards usually aren't aired correctly or cleaned with an old cloth and it leaves a damp smell/taste on my pizza,

Ingredients that aren't mentioned on the menu. I know that they can't list every single item but I hate it when there's an ingredient that I hate that's a major component of the dish but isn't listed in the description so I spend more time trying to avoid olives or raw tomatoes than I do eating.

Yes sometimes it's possible for restaurants to put waits on despite having empty tables. Normally due to sickness/lateness, a large number of bookings about to turn up or a large number of open menus about to order.

Loud 'background ' music
Ill- disciplined over indulged children, screaming infants, shrieking micro humans
Anything served on a board or slate or other unconventional hipster receptacle
'Enjoy!' Ugh

Oh and ' guys'
No my friends and I are all middle aged women.
Not guys.

Went to Bill's for brunch at the weekend. It was actually really nice.

Rustic look was rather contrived and scruffy enamel teapot handle burned my fingers.

So, shabby chic is not always good.

Also went to Pizza Express with son and his friend for dinner. Rang to book a table - they sniffily said they didn't have any tables until 8pm. Walked past at 7.45 and only 3 tables were occupied!

Other diners. They annoy me loads. Young couple on next door table in Pizza Express watched a Youtube video on his phone on full volume. Or they did, until I intervened Grin

Ordering hot chocolate and being handed a mug of hot water and a bit of chocolate on a stick... If I wanted to make my own hot chocolate I would have done it at fecking home for free!!

who names their restaurant after a penis?

I dunno, I think there's about a dozen restaurants worldwide with 'Gordon Ramsey' in the title

When they ask ‘was everything ok?’ My husband has started saying something like ‘ok? Surely you serve better than OK food? ‘ Or ‘yes it was just OK so we probably won’t be back’

I would be mortified if my husband was such a nasty clever arse to waiting staff. What does he get from doing that exactly? Beware of people who treat service staff like shit.

Or hot chocolate that isn't actually hot, probably all of them in the cafes I've tried, which is M&S, Hotel Chocolat and Costa that I can think of.

I imagine sitting there, leisurely sipping my hot chocolate, but I can't because it's barely warm so has to be drunk quickly. And no, asking for it extra hot doesn't seem to make any difference.

Loud music
Noisy kids
Noisy adults
Being sat in the middle tables like you're on display
People in close proximity to me

However I haven't been in a restaurant for a long time as I find it stressful. I will go if it's part of say a birthday thing planned for someone.

Waitresses using their sleeves to hold hot plates, actually pulling the hairy, grubby cuffs down over their hands instead of getting a clean cloth to bring them to the table.

Uncomfortable bistro style chairs and tiny tables. I know it is so they can fit more tables in but to be scared the plates will fall off the edge and get cramp in your backside because the seat is child sized - no I won't go back even though the menu is OK and the staff are trained well to be friendly.

Music so loud you can't speak to your companions and everyone else is shouting over it which makes it even worse.
