To move or not to move?

I've been renting for 15 years. The location is perfect for me. Walking distance to work and the city. However because of this the house prices are ridiculous and you don't get much for your money. By moving a coupe of miles out I could get a much bigger house.
Really torn as to what to do. I've lived in the same house for 10 years. Landlady can't afford to sell it to me.
Don't know whether to settle for poor value for money and pay for the location or a bigger house and have to pay for public transport or car parking at work.
Arghh!

I think if you are happy there don't move for a bit of extra space. No guarantee of nice neighbours too.

Do you mean if you move out you’d be able to buy? If you’d be renting again, I’d stay where you are as being walking distance to/from work is a real luxury!

Yes I'd be able to buy. It would be a huge wrench to leave where I am now. My house is nice but it's tiny. The estate is nice but hugely over priced.

My landlady Charges well under the market rent which is why I've held off buying. But I need to get on the laddder now in order to have it paid off before I retire.

You are right it’s best to get on the housing ladder as soon as you can. Could you buy somewhere and rent it out for a while and stay where you are until you’ve got your head around moving?

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 08/02/2019 11:55

Would it be an option to buy somewhere small where you currently live?

Toddlerteaplease · 08/02/2019 14:33

So I looked at a house in another area and was surprised at how small it was. As were other houses I've looked at. It's made me realise that it's worth staying in my current area. As being able to walk to work is a huge advantage. There is nothing on my estate for sale at the minister so I'll sit tight, save and wait until something comes up/ landlady wants to sell. Can't afford to buy anywhere to let.
