Any registrars around? Question about marriage certificate

We just received our marriage certificate today and I've noticed my mum's name is incorrect.

It's reads as firstname, married name (ms) or maiden name.

It's also missing her middle name and her other surname. I've only really noticed since looking at MILS which reads as Firstname, Maiden name, Married name and after asking to see my friends.

Is this difficult to change? I absolutely wrote down my mum's middle name and all three surnames on the m10 forms but seems it hasn't transferred over properly.

Thanks!

My mums name isn't on my marriage certificate. Was she a witness?

bigchris · 06/02/2019 21:36

Did you check it to see if it Was correct before you signed it ?

April241 · 06/02/2019 22:03

TC07 No not a witness, just her info that they ask for

bigchris I noticed it when we picked up the schedule a few days before the wedding but didn't think anything of it and didn't think to question it. It wasn't until I seen one of my friends certificates, noticed MILs was the other way about and asked a few other people how theirs was written

My mums name andDh’s name are on mine

Fluffyears · 06/02/2019 22:05

dh’s Mums name,l

We were given our certificate on the wedding day, the registrar handed it to me at the end of the ceremony. Before the ceremony me and dh separately confirmed our details and checked the certificate was correct. I was led to believe it couldn't be changed so we had to be 100% certain the spellings were correct. My mom's details weren't on there, only my dad and dh's dad.

Were you married in a church?

Cismyfatarse1 · 06/02/2019 22:09

My FiL is on ours as Alexandra not Alexander.

Marriage hasn't crumbled.

He was trans-ed against his will by the vicar!

Venus no not married in a church. The actual spelling etc is correct but they've got the surnames round the wrong way so it reads married name, maiden name rather than maiden name, married name. I was focusing on the spellings and making sure the addresses, postcodes etc were correct that I didn't actually pick up that it was a potential issue.

It's only now, after all the wedding stuff has calmed down, that I've realised they're the opposite way about.

cis this is making me feel better!! Has it ever caused issues?

Same as Venus
To correct it I think it's £90

April241 · 06/02/2019 22:22

bigchris thank you, I'd seen on the GOV site it was £90 and I'd need to send proof etc but I didn't know if that related to errors on the bride/groom parts. When I filled in the m10 from it had all the information on it which is why I didn't really question it, I just assumed they took what they'd needed.

Dammit, what a worry. I'll call the registry office tomorrow and see what they say.

My father's middle name is butchered on mine. I didn't notice until about a year ago, after we'd been married over a decade. It hasn't caused an issue so far, but I'm interested to hear what the registry office says.

April241 · 06/02/2019 22:51

fuzzy ill let you know what they say tomorrow if I call :)

Update - called the registry office, they said just to send it back and they'll swap the surnames around and send back out.

Panic over!
