In Greece, is it really as bad as the reviews make out?? Most of the reviews i have read say it's dark, dirty, rude staff and badly organised.

Has anyone been recently that can confirm?

We have booked a holiday to Halkadiki this year but worried about the airport, I'm a nervous flyer as it is. Not much i can do about it now but just want to know how true the reviews are.

I’ve travelled through it & it was ok. Not half as bad as Chania on Crete or Grenoble in France.

MarshaBradyo · 11/01/2019 12:49

We went to Halkidiki last year and the airport was fine, I don’t remember it as standing out in any case.

We didn’t spend much time there, but not so bad I noticed it as different to any other regional airport of the same size

I've been through Chania four times and there's nothing wrong with it. Can't imagine how anyone finds it "bad".

I've been through very, very many Greek airports and never had a problem with any of them. Worst spot was when I forgot to put a toiletries bag containing nail scissors in my suitcase. It was picked up on the x-ray and the staff member who indicated the issue took them out to confiscate them and didn't smile once. However, with therapy I'm over it now.

Haven't been to Halkidiki to be fair, but I'm sure it will be OK. People who leave reviews saying staff were rude, frequently don't mention how obnoxious they were to staff, so you do have take the reviews with a pinch of salt.

No it's fine. I remember it being small and if you're staying at the Ikos or Sani the reps from the hotel will meet you, give you some ice cold water and get you all sorted and to the car.

pinkcardi · 11/01/2019 13:16

It's fine. A bit dark and busy but a fully functioning normal airport.

They sent us into the priority security queue because we had small kids. There isn't much food at the gate so get stuff at the main terminal if you are hungry.

Flights were delayed and there weren't enough seats so we sat on the floor.

But all fine.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/01/2019 13:24

We went 2 years ago, can’t remember it so can’t have been that bad! We had a private transfer though so didn’t have to deal with finding cars etc. Although I’m sure most people who are going to the hotels around there get a transfer too anyway?

DonkeyScramble · 11/01/2019 13:25

Eh? It's absolutely fine and no different to any other airport. It's not very large though so the duty free area is limited. I've certainly been to worse though.

I was there a couple of months ago.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 11/01/2019 13:26

It's small and not somewhere you'd want to spend a lot of time; like most airports, but it's functional and fine!

PestoSnowissimos · 11/01/2019 13:41

TheNoodlesincident maybe I was just unlucky, but we were stuck in a mass scrum, not a proper queue, trying to check in there (Chania) for 3 hours! In the end our flight was called & we had someone take us to the desk as we hadn’t checked in, let alone gone through security. It was a nightmare, coz we couldn’t leave the ‘queue’ during that time, to uses the bathroom. And we had our 2 very young daughters with us, who had to stand up whilst being jostled/shoved by all the other people . It was caused by their not having separate lines for different flights. We were all in one grand masse together.
And don’t get me started on Grenoble departures. I have to fly through their again next month. 😬

IconicWaffle · 11/01/2019 13:44

How strange. It’s a completely normal, unremarkable small airport - and by no means the smallest I’ve been to. You have nothing at all to worry about.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 11/01/2019 13:49

It’s an airport. There is nothing to be worried about. It’s not as if that is your hotel. Thousands of planes fly in and out of there so there is nothing functionally wrong with it.
