Mumsnet mystery thread... Help me identify this stain!

Okay, so last night my DH said there were odd marks on his work shirts.

My whites are always brilliant white and I never have any issues with them.

Until now Just looked and there is indeed weird stains on DH's shirts. There are also some of these marks on a lot of the other whites!

No idea what it could be. Would someone please identify what it could be to me?

I'm truly baffled. It's quite unsettling...

Is your washing machine clean? Sometimes sludge can collect in the seal, and transfers onto clothes when you pull them out.

It looks like rusty water residue from the iron?

Washing machine should be clean. It's given regular little cleans with bicarb etc.

And it was deep cleaned before moving in 6 weeks ago.

It can't be the iron because these marks were there before the clothes went anywhere near my iron

The one on the white shirt looks like iron scale...I sometimes get these if I'm impatient for the iron the heat up.

The other looke like machine sludge...have a look in your seal...even using a cleaner doesn't always get into the seal
